Custom Job Purpose:
This position exists to perform skilled work in the repair, conditioning, and painting of automotive and bus bodies, cabs, fenders, and other related equipment. Does glass repairs as needed. Essential Functions of this Job Removes dents and straightens panels, fenders, hoods and related body parts with tools specific to the paint and body repair trade. Replaces body parts as needed. Welds breaks and fractures in sheet metal and frame assemblies. Cleans, sands, masks and sprays or brush paints automotive and truck equipment. Removes, cuts and installs all glass on a variety of vehicles. Installs accessory equipment. Non-Essential Functions of this Job Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Considerable knowledge and skills of the tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the paint and body repair trade. Considerable knowledge and skills in the use of paints, lacquers, enamels, paint removers, and other surface finishes, repairs, and their properties/applications. Considerable knowledge and skills to mix and match paints, lacquers, and enamels. Prepares estimates of time and materials to repair damaged equipment. Considerable knowledge and skills in locating and correcting structural defects in school board owned equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the job. Ability to follow DER (Department of Environmental Regulation), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and OSHA (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) guidelines as to handling, storing, using and disposing of waste materials. Ability to use MIG welding equipment. Bilingual/biliterate preferred. Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements Graduation from high school or completion of GED. A minimum of two years’ experience with five years’ preferred and/or verifiable completion of vocational training in the paint and body industry. Appropriate state of Florida driver’s license. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certification in Paint and Body preferred.
Work Context:
Requires standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines.
Physical Environment:
Requires standing and sitting, and the ability to frequently lift and/or carry 20 – 50 pounds, move and/or position objects weighing 100 – 150 pounds using assistance or equipment as needed. and infrequently weighing between 20 and 50 pounds. Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires exposure to outdoor elements, including weather changes, foliage, and insects. Requires the handling and use of cleaning solvents and solutions. Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
