INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR THE POSITION OF

Fleet Technician I (Medium/Heavy)
SALARY
$20.32 – $32.50 Hourly

CLOSING DATE

4/14/2025 This position is responsible for the mechanical repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from standard senior high school or GED, as recognized by the United States Department of Education (USDE) or Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA);and
Two (2) years recent experience as a mechanic (maintenance/repair of heavy equipment, medium and heavy trucks (or a combination of these); and
One (1) year recent experience as a mechanic in the maintenance and repair of both diesel and gasoline engines.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT/PROMOTION/DEMOTION/TRANSFER

Must complete and accept Certification of Understanding and CDL Condition of Employment/Promotion/Demotion/Transfer form(s).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must furnish own hand tools for mechanic trade.
An employee in this position is required to participate in after-hour standby duty to include holidays and weekends.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by the City of Dothan. Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, or such other hours per day or hours per week as the City determines whether it is necessary or desirable to meet its operational needs. Must be available and willing to work such overtime per day or per week as the City determines is necessary or desirable to meet its operational needs.
Valid operators driver license and an acceptable driving record. (PBA 9/10/01)
Employees are required to obtain a Class A Driver License (CDL) within 120 days of date of employment/promotion/demotion/transfer to this position. (See condition for details.)
In an emergency and/or standby situation, an employee in this position must be able to report to his/her regular workstation in a maximum of 30 minutes from the time of notification. (Sec. 2-30. (2) / PBA 1/9/95). This requirement must be met within six (6) months of employment/promotion /demotion/transfer. (See condition for details.)
An applicant for this position is subject to various background investigations up to and including a criminal, credit, past employment, and reference checks.
Employees are required to submit to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with the City of Dothan policy, which includes pre-employment and random tests for the duration of employment in this position. (PBA 8/13/12)
Must meet the City of Dothans employment physical standards, which include drug/alcohol testing.

APPLICATION / EXAMINATION

Qualified applicants will be evaluated based on training and experience as documented on their application. This evaluation will comprise 60% of the final grade. The written exam will comprise the other 40% of the final grade.
The written examination is scheduled for April 24, 2025. If you meet the minimum qualifications, an email notification inviting you to self-schedule the written exam will go out at a later date. You MUST self-schedule your slot or you will not be allowed to test.
The content areas of the written examination, for the position of Fleet Technician I, includes the following

Electrical Systems
Fuel Delivery Systems
Wheels, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems
Tool and Equipment
Safe Work Practices
You will be allowed two (2) hours and fifteen (15) minutes to complete the written exam. Once the written exam begins, you will not b allowed to leave the room until you have finished.

NOTE:
