Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Emergency Vehicle Technician to join our maintenance team. The Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy vehicles, including firetrucks, trucks, and other large vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in vehicle repair, knowledge of heavy-duty systems, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and functionality of all vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on emergency vehicles, including diesel engines, transmission systems, brakes, hydraulic systems, suspension, electrical components, and other related systems. Conduct scheduled maintenance on heavy-duty vehicles, such as oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, brake checks, and fluid inspections, to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, using diagnostic tools and equipment to assess vehicle problems and provide detailed reports on necessary repairs. Replace faulty parts and components with high-quality, OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts; perform necessary upgrades to improve vehicle performance and compliance with safety regulations. Perform comprehensive inspections of vehicles and equipment, identifying wear and tear, potential safety hazards, and ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate service records, documenting repairs, inspections, parts usage, and any issues encountered during maintenance activities. Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized machinery to perform maintenance and repairs efficiently and safely. Work closely with other technicians, shop managers, and vehicle operators to resolve any technical issues and ensure smooth operation of vehicles. Communicate effectively regarding vehicle status, repairs, and downtime to minimize disruptions to operations. Follow all safety protocols and industry regulations, ensuring that vehicles meet safety standards and that the shop environment adheres to safety regulations. Promote a culture of safety by ensuring the proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and tools. Assist with managing parts inventory, ensuring that necessary parts and materials are available for repairs and maintenance without unnecessary delays.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a relevant vocational program or technical certification (e.g., Diesel Mechanics, Automotive Technology) preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair, including experience with diesel engines and heavy machinery. Strong knowledge of heavy vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions, hydraulics, electrical, and suspension systems. Proficiency with diagnostic equipment and tools used for troubleshooting and vehicle diagnostics. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to complete tasks in a timely manner. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to ensure high-quality repairs and maintenance. Ability to lift heavy objects, bend, kneel, and perform other physically demanding tasks as required. Valid driver’s license; CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) preferred but not required. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Familiarity with safety regulations, vehicle compliance standards, and OSHA requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with specific heavy vehicle brands or types Welding and fabrication skills. EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification or other relevant professional certifications.

Working Conditions:

Full-time position with regular hours and potential overtime as needed. Work performed in a shop environment with exposure to loud machinery, heavy equipment, and various chemicals. Physical demands include heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds or more), bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods. Personal protective equipment (PPE) provided, including gloves, safety goggles, and protective clothing, and required to be worn during work hours.
