Work Hours:
Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Saturday and Sunday shifts vary with On-Call and EmergencyTo perform skilled manual and mechanical tasks necessary for repair and preventive maintenance of the County’s fleet vehicles and vehicular equipment.

Essential Functions:

Area of Assignment:
Checks vehicles and opens work orders.
Inspects vehicles/equipment and opens computerized work orders.
Performs maintenance tasks including 32-point inspections, oil changes, fluid level checks, batteries and tires.
Repairs, or assists with repairs to vehicles and vehicular equipment, which may include gasoline, diesel, tasks related to engine repair and drivability; hydraulics, transmission, air conditioning, brake systems; etc.
Maybe required to use welding and cutting tools to fabricate, strengthen and/or repair weak or fatigued points and perform simple welding tasks.
Inspects and adjusts front end and rear axle alignment and suspension systems.
Uses state-of-the-art mechanical and diagnostic equipment.
Prepares and maintains reports, logs, records, etc., as required.
The Senior level serves in a lead capacity by instructing and overseeing the work of lower-level experience staff.
Communicates clearly, effectively and tactfully, orally and in writing, including understanding and following instructions and other materials (i. e., manuals, schematics, work orders, etc.)Performs other duties (including weather and other extreme conditions) as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High school graduate/equivalent.
Experience:
Tech I:
Minimum of two (2) years work and/or training experience (within the last 7 years) in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and vehicular equipment.
Tech II:
Minimum of three (3) years work and/or training experience (within the last 8 years) in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and vehicular equipment.
Tech III:
Minimum of five (5) years work and/or training experience (within the last 10 years) in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and vehicular equipment.
Senior:
Minimum of six (6) years work and/or training experience (within the last 11 years) in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and vehicular equipment.
All levels:
Must possess a complete set of department approved automotive mechanic tools.
Licenses/Certifications:
Tech I:
Minimum of one (1) active certification equivalent to those of ASE or NATEF or must obtain one certification within 6 months of hire.
Tech II:
Minimum of three (3) active certifications equivalent to those of ASE or NATEF. Additional or specific ASE certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
Tech III:
Minimum of four (4) active certifications equivalent to those of ASE or NATEF. Additional or specific ASE certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
Senior:
Minimum of five (5) active certifications equivalent to those of ASE or NATEF. Additional or specific ASE certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.
All Levels:
Valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Class “B” with P (Passenger) endorsement or must obtain within six (6) months of hire.
All levels must possess a complete, department-approved, set of automotive mechanic tools.

All positions will be given a tool allowance ranging from $1.84-$2.62, depending on hired level.
