Custom Job Purpose:
- This position exists to perform responsible supervisory work in directing and assisting in the operation of a Vehicle Services facility providing repair and maintenance services for automobiles, buses, trucks and other related equipment.
- Essential Functions of this Job
- Assists in the supervision and evaluation of all personnel involved at all Service Center locations.
Assigns personnel to inspect, test and road check equipment to determine the nature of defects and failures. Inspects the work of technicians to determine and evaluate repairs. Compiles and submits reports to the appropriate supervisor. Computes and completes technicians’ payroll. Assists in maintaining the inspection schedule for all assigned vehicles. Coordinates and resolves warranty issues on School Board owned motor vehicles and equipment. Maintains a relational database to ensure accurate accountability as it relates to warranty repair claims. Recommends shop equipment, tools and shop improvements to the Service Manager. Performs the duties of the Service Manager during his/her absence at all service locations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Practical knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment and maintenance of a variety of automobiles, buses, trucks and other equipment.
Practical knowledge of methods and techniques used in the repair and maintenance of buses, heavy truck, and automotive equipment. Ability to plan, assign, inspect and supervise the work of employees. Considerable knowledge and ability to operate computerized programs related to service center operations. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Practical knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Practical knowledge of DER (Department of Environmental Regulation), EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines as to handling, storing and disposing waste materials. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
- Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
- Graduation from high school or completion of GED.
A minimum of three (3) years’ mechanical training and/or experience required. School bus maintenance experience preferred.
License or Certification:
Appropriate State of Florida driver’s license. Must be able to obtain DOE (Department of Education) certification within 120 days of employment. Must be able to obtain DOE inspector trainer certification within 1 year of employment. ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) technician certification preferred.

- Requires standing for the majority of the day, and the ability to frequently lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing between 20 and 50 pounds.
Requires working both indoors and outdoors. Requires exposure to outdoor elements, including weather changes, foliage, and insects. Requires the handling and use of cleaning solvents and solutions. Requires the proper use of personal protective devices and equipment as assigned.
