Where Your Career is a Force for Good! We are seeking aGeneral Maintenance and Fleet Tech for our Portland Red Cross BloodCenter in Portland, ME. Schedule Shift is Mon-Fri, 8am to 5pm(flexible – 40 hours). On call is required. Valid Drivers Licenseis required. Offer includes a $1,500 sign-on bonus. Up to $8,000annually in on-call pay. Main facility is 16,000 square feet. Fleetof 26 vehicles across 3 facilities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Undergeneral supervision, the General Maintenance Fleet and Tech II willperform repairs and maintenance in plant or office facilities, oron machines and equipment. The General Maintenance Fleet and TechII t ypically performs work in one or more of the maintenancetrades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repairand electrical. Conduct routine, periodic, or special inspectionsto determine repair and maintenance work necessary to preventbreakdowns of facilities, machinery, and equipment. Use hand andpower tools to test, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair machines andequipment. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidanceto all volunteers. Perform all duties and responsibilities incompliance with standard operating procedures and other applicableFederal, State and local regulations.

Maintain and repair organization’s facilities and propertiesinvolving routine tasks and responsibilities. Patch minor holes andcracks in walls and ceilings. Repair or replace concrete floors,steps and sidewalks. Paint structures and equipment as needed.

Install and correct minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, andstructural problems. Document installation and repairs as requiredby regulatory agencies. Install, operate and service boilers,chillers, motors, fans, pumps and related mechanical equipment. Maymove and store furniture and equipment. Estimate time and materialcosts of various projects. Requisition new supplies and equipment.

May plant and tend flowerbeds. Prune shrubs and trees to enhancegrowth and appearance, water lawns, shrubs and flowerbeds and sprayfertilizer and insecticides. May rake and remove fallen leaves,sweep external walkways and staircases and may remove snow usingpower removal equipment or shovel. Apply snow-melting chemical whennecessary on company roads, walkways and outside staircases. Maydrive vehicle to other locations. Perform all work in accordancewith established safety procedures. Responsible for 24 Fleetvehicles across 3 facilities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
Education:

High School or equivalent required.

Experience:

Minimum 3 years ofrelated experience or equivalent combination of education andrelated experience required. Related experience includes skill andknowledge of painting, HVAC, carpentry, pluming, masonry andelectrical work is required.

Skills & Abilities:

May require avalid driver’s license and clean DMV record. Previous truck and/orbus driving experience is desirable. May be required to have basiccomputer skills. Exemplary interpersonal, verbal and writtencommunications skills. Skills and knowledge of painting, HVAC,carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work is required. Mayhave on-call duties. Ability to work on a team.

Travel:

Will drivevehicle to other locations. A current, valid driver’s license withgood driving record is required. • Combination of candidate’seducation and general experience satisfies requirements so long asthe total years equate to description’s minimum education andgeneral experience years combined (Management experience cannot besubstituted).

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to usehands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talkor hear. Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-50 lbs. frequently;lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs. withassistance or the use of a powered industrial truck. Frequentlyrequired to push carts weighing up to 250 pounds on flat flooringor ramps. Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouchor crawl. Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. Ableto move/lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted. Ability to use a variety ofhand and power tools and work with a variety of chemicals andsolvents. Position may require climbing of ladders for top-levelselection.
