Description:
As a diesel mechanic, you will perform routinemaintenance and all necessary repairs on company fleet vehicles.
The ideal candidate for the Mechanic position will beself-motivated, organized, and goal oriented. They will be able toeffectively complete all duties outlined below and meet allqualifications and proficiencies as required by the position. Receives work orders for requested heavy equipment or truckmaintenance repairs. Diagnoses specific issue(s) or problem(s) and determines mosttime and cost-effective method to fix, repair or resolveproblem. Communicates with equipment operator to gather or verifyinformation and to advise of expected repair time. Travels to location of disabled equipment to fix, repair ordiagnose problem(s) as needed. Troubleshoots equipment issues to determine most cost-effectiveapproach to fix, repair or resolve. Consults with other mechanics as needed to discuss problems orquestions with any particular process or procedure. Operates equipment after completing repairs to ensuresatisfactory completion/resolution of problem(s). Meets with parts vendors as needed to discuss specific issuesand specifications. Maintains current knowledge and skill needed to diagnose, fixor repair heavy equipment and trucks. Maintains orderly work area to include wiping up spills, neatlystoring tools and parts, properly discarding old or unused partsand materials, sweeping area and emptying trash receptacles asneeded. Follows established company policies and guidelines for safety,quality and customer service. Assists with taking inventory as needed. Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) as required orneeded. Completes required paperwork timely and accurately. Maintain hand and power tools in good repair. Other duties as assigned by supervisor or other managementemployees.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
- HS Diploma or equivalentrequired. Prefer additional training in heavy equipment or truckengine repair
- Minimum of 5 years of diesel or gasoline enginemechanic experience preferably in a fleet environment performingdiagnostic repairs
- Current, valid driver’s license required
- Current, valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s license (CDL)preferred
- Satisfactory driving and criminal record required
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions (written and oral) andwork independently
- Must be able to read, speak, write andunderstand English
- Provides own tools to perform the job
- Must have ability to criminal background and drug screening.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to pass Department of Transportation (DOT)physical requirements if needed
- Frequent periods of standing onconcrete surface
- Occasional/frequent periods of leaning overand lying on back
- Occasional/frequent lifting of up to 100lbs
- Occasional/frequent carrying of up to 50 lbs
- Occasional/frequent climbing of steps to enter truck and steelladder to reach the top of the mixer drum
- Occasional/frequentreaching, grabbing, pushing and pulling
- Occasional/frequentstooping, squatting, bending and kneeling
- Occasional pushingand pulling
- Occasional/frequent twisting.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Majority of work is performed outdoors in hot and coldconditions
- Intermittent exposure to elements of weather toinclude extremes in heat, humidity, cold and dust
- Intermittentexposure to high noise levels and truck vibration
- Frequentexposure to dust, diesel fuel, lubricants and other substances thatmay cause burns, be toxic or explosive if handled incorrectly
- Occasional exposure to confined spaces.
