Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to maintain, repair and replace the tires on all County vehicles, heavy truck and off-road equipment. This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned. Operates or uses various machinery, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains tire maintenance equipment including mounting and inflating equipment; and maintains a basic mechanics tool kit. Inspects wheels and tires for damage or wear; ensures damage or wear is within safety ranges; initiates repair or replacement work orders as needed; and performs repair or replacement work as needed. Changes vehicle tires; dismounts, inspects, mounts, inflates, and balances tires for automobiles, light trucks, and heavy trucks and equipment; inspects road wheel beads for damage or undue wear; and determines correct inflation pressures for vehicle. Repairs tires; dismounts and inspects tires to find problems; repairs, mounts, inflates, and balances tires; and performs changes or repairs in the field as required. Maintains inventory; receives new tires from vendors; adds and/or removes tires from inventory; and updates inventory records. Prepares old tires for rework or disposal; evaluates tires for potential rework or disposal; separates tires and prepares them for rework or disposal; and maintains associated records. Performs road and field calls to repair or replace tires, rims, and maintain related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED required; two years of experience in tire maintenance; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required:
Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) appropriate for the level of equipment operated within six (6) months of starting employment in this classification.
