Job Description

Fleet Technician III Walker County Government LaFayette, GA 30728 JOB SUMMARY The Fleet Technician III is a third level position that provides general mechanical services to the county Fleet at the direction of the Shop Supervisor and Technician IV. Fleet Technicians work a regular schedule, but will have to report for severe weather and other emergencies on occasion that could be outside of their normal work schedule.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Perform all fluid changes assigned Change, rotate, and balance tires on vehicles when assigned Perform basic mechanical services when assigned Brake work, including air brakes Navigate and prioritize vehicles and or equipment for service Run major diagnostics Engine repair Repair air conditioning systems Major electrical repairs Maintain a clean work space All other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES

High School diploma or GED Prefer 5 years experience Valid driver’s license with proof of insurance Must supply own hand tools

General mechanical knowledge Ability to organize and maintain multiple projects Able to maintain good teamwork and collaboration Excellent customer service skills Knowledge of basic hand and air tools Ability to use hydraulic jacks and air jacks

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Fleet Technician III job. These physical demands include, but are not limited to: While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to be able to lift at least 45 pounds. He/She must be able to stand and squat for extended periods of time. He/She must be able to stand, sit, squat, bend and reach over his/her head. Other physical demands include but are not limited to. Walking/ climbing stairs Climbing and balancing on equipment, step stools, and ladders Standing or squatting Able to lift a minimum of 45 lbs Lifting and carrying equipment Bending, twisting, pushing, and pulling while working on equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing required duties of a Fleet Technician III the employee can be exposed to moderate noise levels. Duties can be performed in the shop, at other locations assigned by the shop supervisor or Fleet Technician IV including outdoor areas. Environmental factors include extreme weather conditions at times. There are also times that a technician could be exposed to respiratory hazards including fumes from gases, chemicals, dust, and dirt. The Walker County Fleet includes automobiles, light trucks, agricultural mowers and tractors, emergency vehicles, medium to heavy duty trucks and equipment. Exposure to dangerous machinery. PPE should be worn as needed.
