Job Description

Position Summary The senior fleet maintenance technician is responsiblefor maintenance, service and repair of the entire VTA fleet of vehiclesand equipment. Much of the work in this position will be on medium/heavyduty diesel and gasoline vehicles as well as electric buses. VTA willprovide the opportunity for training on electric buses. The seniortechnician must be able to collaborate with the service coordinator toplan and schedule work as well as train the entry level technicians.

Primary Responsibilities:

Conductsvehicle safety inspections and replaces defective parts and components;Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, overhauls and installs electrical systems,fuel systems, hydraulic systems, ignition, emission, and pneumatic,mechanical and related vehicle computerized systems; Troubleshoots,repairs, rebuilds and performs preventive maintenance on major buscomponents including engines, transmissions, differentials, airconditioning systems, compressors, wheelchair lifts/ramps, and variouselectrical parts; Relines brakes, cuts brake drums and arcs brake liningto fit drums per original equipment manufacture (OEM) standards;Performs cutting and welding, fabricates and installs a variety of partsand equipment as needed; Perform routine maintenance tasks such asreplacing hoses, oil changes, tire rotations, and fluid checks; Performsbus exchanges and road calls. Performs repairs on vehicles in the field,as required; Completes vehicle service requests, lists work performed onwork order forms, and indicates additional repairs, if needed; Followsafety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment;Communicate effectively with coworkers; Safely uses all power andhand-held mechanic’s tools; Evaluates completed work and conductsinspection of equipment prior to re-lease back into service; Cleansexterior of all Authority-maintained vehicles and fuels as needed, priorto release back into service; Fuels and adds lubricants and other fluidsto all Authority-maintained vehicles as needed, prior to release backinto service; Ensures that complete chassis, engines and components arepressure-washed and shop work areas are cleaned in accordance withmechanic shop standards; Available for weekends and on-call hours

Position Requirements:

Minimum of 2 years of maintenance experience(service/repair of motor vehicles). A minimum of 4 ASE Certifications;preferably including Transit Bus Certification (H Series), AdvancedEngine Performance Specialist (L1), Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis(L2), Medium-Heavy Duty Truck Certification (T Series), Valid driver’slicense or ability to obtain, and a clear driving record. This positionis subject to pre- and post-employment drug testing. High schooldiploma; preferably Associates Degree in diesel or heavy duty equipmentMust have the ability to read, interpret and analyze maintenancemanuals, wiring diagrams, trade manuals, governmental regulations, andother documents. Knowledge of, and skill in applying, the basicprinciples of operation, basic components, malfunctions, repairpractices and preventive maintenance techniques for internal combustionengines, including diesel and motor vehicle systems and sub-assembliesand hybrid vehicles. Thorough knowledge of the procedures, methods,tools, materials, supplies, and adjusting automotive equipment,computerized diagnostic equipment including hand held and windows-basedsoftware. Thorough knowledge of basic procedures and equipment used inthe maintenance and repair of diesel and/or gasoline engines. Basicprinciples of automotive mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumaticsystems. The individual must be detail oriented and possess aself-motivated desire to learn Strong problem solving skills andattention to detail. Ability to take direction from expe iencedtechnician
