While you’ll still be hands-on with prototype vehicles, you’ll operate at a higher technical level, bridging the gap between mechanical/electrical work and complex vehicle software/system diagnostics. You’ll be critical in supporting the development and debugging of cutting-edge EV technology, working closely with engineering teams to bring new features to life and troubleshoot intricate issues. What you’ll do… Perform complex assembly, modification, maintenance, and repair tasks on prototype vehicles systems (including electrical, mechanical, thermal, and propulsion systems). Lead technical issue triage and debugging efforts for complex vehicle problems, focusing on interactions between hardware and software components. Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software, including CAN analysis tools (like CANalyzer, Vehicle Spy), to analyze vehicle data, identify root causes of issues, and verify fixes. Execute vehicle software flashing, configuration updates, and module programming as required during the development process. Support vehicle bring-up activities for new prototype builds, system integrations, and major software releases, ensuring basic functionality and connectivity. Collaborate closely with Software, Calibration, Integration, and Test Engineers to understand technical issues, provide detailed feedback, and implement solutions. Fabricate or modify complex parts and components as needed to support prototype development and issue resolution. Maintain detailed and accurate technical records of work performed, including modifications, diagnostic findings, software versions, and issue resolution steps. Assist in developing and refining technical procedures for prototype assembly, advanced diagnostics, software updates, and vehicle bring-up. Support vehicle testing activities by preparing vehicles, installing instrumentation, and providing on-the-spot technical diagnosis and repair during test sessions. Ensure all work is performed safely and maintain a highly organized and clean work environment. Manage inventory of specialized parts, tools, and diagnostic equipment. Potentially provide technical guidance or mentorship to junior technicians. You’ll have… High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as an automotive technician or in a related hands-on technical role, with significant experience working on prototype vehicles or in a research and development environment.
