Fleet Mechanic Position Available In Hampden, Massachusetts

Fleet Mechanic The Town of Longmeadow, MA DPW is seeking qualifiedapplicants for the FT positions of Fleet Mechanic. Position isresponsible for performing skilled automotive work in the inspection,diagnostic, repair and maintenance of town trucks and automobiles, heavyand light equipment, and associated mechanical equipment. Performssemi-skilled and skilled work in maintaining the vehicles and equipmentof the town. Primary objectives include ensuring vehicles are fixedproperly the first visit and the deployment of a preventativemaintenance program.

Successful candidate must have:

Knowledge of repairand maintenance of light and heavy vehicles and equipment; knowledge ofwelding; knowledge of repairing electrical and electronic systems;knowledge of conducting safety inspections for all types of vehicles andequipment. Ability to use current software programs and diagnostic toolsto troubleshoot problems with equipment and vehicles; ability to operatemachinery and tools; ability to perform auto body work; ability tocommunicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to operateheavy and light equipment and trucks in excess of 60,000 GVW. Ability toWork on emergency call out basis, including during extended winterhours. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability tomake independent and responsible decisions. Ability to operate vehiclelifts 80,000, 18,000, 10,000 for heavy equipment. Ability to operate anoverhead 5 ton crane. Computer skills; record keeping skills;proficiency with diagnostic software. High school diploma or equivalent,and 3 to 5 years of related experience; or any equivalent combination ofeducation, training, certification, and experience in automotive andequipment repair work. Current valid motor vehicle license; Class BCommercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Tanker Endorsements,required with Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake andTanker Endorsements, preferred. Class 2A hoisting license and Class 3Ahoisting license for 5 ton overhead crane. Certified qualified brakeinspector to service trucks with air brakes. OSHA 10. Required to be oncall as needed to respond to emergencies Salary $27.59- $29.28 perhour DOE/DOQ; excellent benefits.
