INTERNAL
POSTING-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126May ” This position is located in Alamance County in the Equipment Shop. This position will function as an Advanced level mechanic. Performs highly skilled automotive and heavy equipment work. Work includes performance of a wide range of progressively responsible tasks involving the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of mechanical systems of gasoline/diesel powered automotive and heavy equipment. Employees may perform mechanical work at various levels. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system. Must be able to perform skilled mechanic work on systems; preventive maintenance; brakes; steering; tires & tubes; wheels, rims, & hubs; transmission (Auto); charging system; cranking system; ignition system; lighting system; cooling system; exhaust system; fuel system; power unit; hydraulics; air conditioning; instruments & gauges; air intake system; suspension; transmission (manual) axle driven rear and axle front (non-driven). Procures material for other DOT agencies as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must meet both the minimum requirements and all posted Knowledge, Skills and Ability requirements to be considered qualified for the position. Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience in performing electrical/electronic diagnostics and repair of complex wiring on two of the following: light, medium, heavy-duty trucks and heavy equipment Experience in performing hydraulic systems diagnostics, repairs, and rebuilds on a variety of equipment Experience in troubleshooting and repair of a minimum of two of the following; light, medium, heavy duty or farm equipment brake components
Experience using SAP to receive, inventory, and bill parts, fuel and lubes
Experience in inventory management including parts, fuel, and tube commodities
Additional Expectations:
Position requires work during any adverse weather such as snow and/or ice, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. which can lead to working extended daily hours, weekends, and holidays. Ability to perform duties of position in accordance with all safety regulations; prepare and maintain paperwork essential to employment, equipment repair, inventory, and service records; understand both written and oral instructions; move parts and material necessary to repair and maintain equipment; and safely operate equipment for testing purposes. Ability to demonstrate commitment to providing a safe working environment by leading by example. Ability to read and interpret Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Pre-employment drug testing required. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Safety-toe shoes required. Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.

Necessary Special Qualifications:
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
