Primary Purpose of Position:
The Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II performs skilled small engine, automotive, and/or heavy equipment repair. Work includes the service, inspection, repair, rebuild and diagnosis of a diverse number of mechanical systems for a variety of gasoline, diesel, and alternative powered engines/equipment. Work ranges from inspection and service to highly complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software; conducting parts/systems failure analysis; and the calibration, adjustment and operation of engine analyzers. Position must routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work assignments. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system and ancillary components/equipment. Employees in this classification perform a variety of recurring and non-recurring work such as electrical, suspension, brake system repair, and /or fitting and repairing more complex ancillary and specialized equipment. The extent of repair work to be done may require consultation with a higher-level technician or a supervisor. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Perform preventive maintenance on automotive, small engines, and/or heavy equipment.
Use and operate the various machines and instruments commonly found in an automotive and/or heavy equipment repair shop, as well as a variety of specialized equipment specific to the area of assignment.
Diagnose and repair various automotive, small engine, and/or heavy equipment systems.
Manage on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities.
Supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers, and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors.
Position/Physical Requirements:
Typical work schedule is Monday – Friday 7:30am -4:30pm.
Must be available to work after hours, holidays and weekends when necessary.
Must be available to work park emergencies and conferences.
Travel days occasionally exceed eight hours in length. Physical strength sufficient to move relatively heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and to perform heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time with or without a reasonable accommodation. Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain: Valid Class C driver’s license.
Maintain a CDL Class A license within 1 year of hire.
Maintain CPR Certification within 1 year of hire.
Obtain Division Sponsored Chainsaw Operator within 2 years of hire. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies To receive credit for your work history and credentials, you must provide the information on the application form. Demonstrated knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and/or material used in the general maintenance and/or repair of vehicles or heavy equipment. Demonstrated experience in vehicle routine maintenance and/or problem diagnoses.
Demonstrated experience in the repair of vehicles and/or heavy equipment. Demonstrated experience in the operation and/or care of small engine types of grounds keeping equipment such as lawn mowers, tractors or chainsaws.
Management Preferences:
Demonstrated experience in advanced level vehicle diagnosis and repair.
Demonstrated experience with the management of on-site inventory including parts, fuel, and lubrication commodities.
Demonstrated experience in the supervision of both skilled and unskilled workers and coordination of work with various contractors and vendors. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, OR a sufficient year-for- year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
