FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform tire service (dismount, mount, balance, and rotate) and repair work of school buses and other fleet automobiles of the school system Transportation Department. A person in this position is responsible for both inside and outside tire service to transportation vehicles and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Always demonstrate a safety mindset: safe buses for students, safe working environment for fellow workers and monitoring safe movements of school and activity buses while operating on public streets and highways are the paramount criteria for this position. Must be aware of and understand pertinent OSHA requirements. Perform service (dismount, mount, balance, and rotate tires) and repair work at the bus garage, satellite staging areas and roadside. Perform match mounting, match mating dual assemblies, and radial runout as necessary. Remove tires for retreading or repair work. Inflating tires to prescribed PSI per load requirements. Responsible for tracking inventory and advising purchasing needs. Responsible for tracking tread depth. Responsible for safe operation of fleet vehicles including compliance with speed and traffic regulations. Participates in training, follows safety procedures, job duties and district policies. Keep work area clean and free to clutter / debris. Clean and maintain service equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Minimum 6 months of relevant experience with heavy duty and commercial tires, particularly tire mounting and dismounting preferred. Ability to successfully operate specialized power tools to mount, balance, rotate and repair tires including tire mounting & balancing machines, air jacks, torque wrenches and pneumatic tools. Ability to effectively use a tire gauge. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in detecting malfunctions and in solving tire problems. Must possess a mechanical aptitude. Ability to use a laptop. Experience using Microsoft office solutions; including Word and Excel Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to prepare and maintain simple records. Ability to perform manual labor associated with tire work. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments. Ability to work independently as well as work collaboratively to solve problems, while maintaining effective working relations with peers, supervisors, and subordinates. Must be willing to get TIA certified.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

Valid Driver’s License.

ABILITY TO OBTAIN

Ability to obtain a Class A CDL. Ability to obtain TIA certification within 6 months of employment. Pay Grade Skill Based
