E., NC Job Type Full Time Regular Job Number 00565 Department Fleet Maintenance Opening Date 06/16/2025 Closing Date 6/30/2025 11:59 PM Eastern Description An employee in this class performs basic work of a mechanic in the Village’s garage. The employee performs assigned automotive and mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel equipment. The work requires operation of various equipment and hand tools to support the work activities. The employee is subject to hazards of mechanic work including working in both inside and outside environments, including extreme hot and cold weather and is exposed to hazards such as loud noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, and oils. Work is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Superintendent and is evaluated through observation while in progress and/or upon completion, work order reports, and by quality and successful equipment operation. Typical Duties and Responsibilities Completes basic repairs and services a variety of trucks, cars, and equipment under direct supervision of others. Performs regular preventive maintenance of vehicles and equipment according to the maintenance schedule; lubricates, checks fluid levels, changes oil and filters, and replaces spark plugs, installs hoses, and replaces belts, checks lights, tires, brake linings, wiper blades, horns, suspensions, etc. Performs routine checks for worn parts and recommends need for replacement or repair. Operates equipment such as, lift jacks, tire changer/balancer, air compressor, battery chargers, wrenches, and other hand tools. Installs batteries and terminals; Changes and repairs tires. Unequips vehicles and equipment, when taken out of service, in preparation for sale. Performs work in accordance with OSHA and Village’s safety regulations and procedures. Uses automated work order system to report time and parts used to complete work. Cleans and arranges tools and garage area. Picks up vehicles for scheduled preventative maintenance; drives vehicles and equipment upon completion of repair work to determine if repair solved the problem; drives to pick up parts. Performs related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic knowledge of the methods, tools, parts and equipment used in the repair of light automotive passenger cars and trucks, Basic knowledge of gasoline and diesel engine operation and repair. Basic knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, vacuum, and brake systems. Basic knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions. Basic knowledge in the operations of tools and machinery used in automotive repair work. Ability to detect by inspection any worn or broken parts. Ability to read and comprehend service manuals and schematic drawings. Ability to operate and repair equipment safely. Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately. Ability to use a computer to enter records on work performed. Ability to deal with others with tact and courtesy. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, peers, supervisor and other Village employees.

SAFETY:

This position requires enforcing and following all Village of Pinehurst and OSHA safety regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and perform repetitive motions. Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; 50 pounds of force frequently; and 20 pounds of force constantly. Must possess the visual acuity to operate a computer, to perform mechanical non-repetitive work, and to use measuring devices; to operate varied hand tools, vehicles, and equipment, etc., and to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of work assigned. Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Possession of a valid driver’s license. Graduation from high school supplemented by some technical or vocational automotive/heavy equipment maintenance training or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Special Requirements Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain certification for NC Vehicle Inspections and OBD Safety.
