The North Carolina Department of Administration is seeking applicants for a Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician II for our Motor Fleet Management division. This division is responsible for maintaining a State Fleet of passenger/cargo vehicles for purchasing, assigning, providing maintenance/repair, and monitoring and disposal of vehicles at the end of their life cycle. The division operates a fleet of 7,300 vehicles on a $37 million yearly budget. The division also monitors vehicle misuses, accidents, and vehicle preventive maintenance schedules using Fleet Best Practices and operates a Cabinet Member inventory of vehicle and trailer titles.

Key Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for repairing all systems of an automobile to factory specifications on an as needed basis and also performs preventative maintenance on vehicles. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: Repairing, maintaining, replacing, and rebuilding mechanical and electrical automobile components in accordance with established automotive repair and maintenance practices. Performing minor and major engine repair or replacement, differential repairs, repairing of electrical components, air conditioning systems, steering and brake systems, as well as automotive computer diagnostics and repair. Performing other mechanical tasks such as changing oil, replacing tires, changing and/or replacing batteries as well as engine tune-ups. Documenting repairs to vehicles and cleaning work areas as well as perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Division/ Department Overview The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state’s population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency’s mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies. ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS

Employees are required to wear a uniform, use safety equipment and follow safety regulations which are provided by the state. The position requires standing for long periods of time and performing manual labor. Work requires visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment. The position may require exposure to extreme environmental conditions. Work is subject to noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and/or oils. Work requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

Demonstrated experience in heating and air conditioning systems. Familiarity with ARI Fleet Garage Management Systems (GMS) or equivalent Auto Garage/Vehicle Workshop Management Software System. Manufacturer or ASE certifications in vehicle repair.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid NC Driver’s License with acceptable driving record. Out of State Applicants must have valid Driver’s License or acquire NC Driver’s License within 60 days of hire. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record. Individual must obtain a Vehicle Safety Inspection License, if not already certified, within 6 months of employment. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
