Description of Work This position with NCDOT offers full State Benefits , competitive salaries and many career development opportunities. “Internal Posting-Only temporary or permanent NCDOT Employees or layoff candidates with the NC Department of Transportation eligible for RIF priority reemployment consideration as described by GS 126 May Apply” This position will work in the NC Department of Transportation Equipment Body Shop and will create equipment repair work orders and monitor work orders for correct information. This position will act as the supervisor in the absence of the Vehicle/Equipment Repair Technician Supervisor. Position is responsible for overseeing bed lining operation and ordering all parts and supplies. Will provide journeyman level automotive, heavy-duty truck and equipment body, maintenance and repair in accordance with accepted standards and repair practices. This position will also require some cutting, shaping, and installing glass panels, along with some automotive interior work as needed for equipment in the DOT fleet. This includes but is not limited to maintenance and repair of engines (gasoline and diesel), electrical systems, power trains, wheels, tires, tracks, brakes (air and hydraulic), transmissions (manual, power shift, automatic), hydraulic systems, cooling systems, and snow removal equipment. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Experience in performing automotive and light/or heavy equipment repair. Experience using techniques and methods involved in determining and solving mechanical problems. Demonstrated ability to shape, bend, and weld body panels along with the proper use of putty, fiberglass, or other chemical mixtures.
Knowledge and understanding of how sensors and actuators work within the systems.
Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend technical and instructional manuals, repair, and maintenance information data from computer web sites.

A valid North Carolina commercial class “A” driver’s license with “N” & “P” endorsements is required within 360 days of hire. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three (3) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for-year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
