Job Description

Job SummaryThe ACAA’s Auto Mechanic will report to the Fleet Manager and assumes responsibility for the maintenance and repair of trucks, buses, automobiles, Fire Trucks & Equipment, Police & Emergency response vehicles & equipment, tractors, mowers, multi-function snow removal equipment and other similar equipment.

Here is how the Auto Mechanic will help:

  • Determine repairs required by road testing and use of diagnostic equipment
  • Repair vehicles and replace defective parts within an allotted time
  • Perform engine tune-ups
  • Develop or participate in the job safety analysis procedures
  • Maintain a clean work environment
  • Work safely and abide by all ACAA safety guidelines
  • Maintain good working relations with management and co-workers, representing the ACAA in a professional manner at all times
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or required.

QualificationsRequirements to apply for role of Auto Mechanic are

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a recognized mechanical apprenticeship in the craft or equivalent training at an accredited trade or technical school, or military training
  • Five years’ experience in the auto and heavy truck mechanic field
  • Possession of a Pennsylvania CDL license, Class “A” or “B.” License must be maintained throughout employment
  • Required to maintain the following licenses and certifications as a condition of employment:
  • PA State Emission Testing Certification
  • PA CDL License (Class A or B)
  • PA State Inspection License
  • Air conditioning Certification
  • Must provide his/her own personal hand tools and protective footwear (safety shoes).We also expect that candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities in most cases:
  • Proficient and experienced in the repair and maintenance of the following:1. Engines
  • Diesel and Gasoline2. Automatic transmissions.3. Front ends and alignments4. Manual transmissions and differentials5. Mechanical and pneumatic brakes.6. Electrical systems.7. Heating and air-conditioning systems.8. Hydraulic systems.9. Body work, painting and fabrication10. Burning, brazing and welding11. Electric Vehicle experience preferred
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and techniques of safety precautions and injury prevention programs
  • Ability to do all paperwork related to the job such as but not limited to Pennsylvania state inspections, emissions, ledgers and scheduling
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends
