Automotive/Equipment Mechanic Position Available In Darlington, South Carolina

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To provide effective and efficient maintenance overhaul and repair of cooperative vehicles and equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment to ensure safe operation and extended service.

Performs major overhauls and repairs to engines, transmissions, drive trains, etc., including hydraulic and electrical systems.

Performs major maintenance, repair, and overhaul to equipment such as derrick, right-of-way, and bucket trucks.

Performs bodywork, welding, and metal repair.

Performs field repairs when necessary.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Skills and knowledge normally acquired through a technical certification in automotive repair. Must have working knowledge of hydraulic overhauling, transmission repairs, and body work. Prefer a minimum of five years experience in related field.

Valid S.C. Commercial Driver’s license is required. Must possess a current Medical Examiner’s certificate.

Will be required to obtain a Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Normally works in a garage environment, occasionally works outdoors, sometimes in poor weather and low visibility conditions to repair vehicles.

Frequently reaches overhead to work on equipment. Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds. Is required to push and pull up to 150 pounds. Often experience extreme noise, vehicular traffic, and slippery floors. Frequently walks, climbs, balances, bends, twists, pushes, pulls, kneels, crawls, and works in awkward positions to service equipment. This includes working at heights up to 20 feet. These activities require finger dexterity, good vision for close work, good hearing, and ability to speak. Occasionally works with materials and chemicals which must be handled according to manufacturer’s specifications to avoid harmful effects. Activities require frequent interaction with others via written and verbal communications.
