About the Role As a Maintenance Technician at Zekelman Industries, Birmingham , you will play a key role in ensuring the safe repair and rebuild of tube mill production equipment. The primary goal is to maximize equipment quality, uptime, rate, and yield. Insert pay here What You’ll Do Performs electrical maintenance on equipment while strictly following safety procedures, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). Ensures all guards and safety equipment are properly in place and functional before returning machinery to operation. Monitors inventory of parts, equipment, and supplies; places orders and verifies deliveries to ensure availability. Utilizes manual and computerized maintenance systems to track, inspect, and report equipment condition and performance. Reads and interprets blueprints, manuals, and schematics to effectively diagnose and repair issues. Troubleshoots and resolves electrical, mechanical, and quality concerns, escalating issues as necessary. Conducts breakdown repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment changeovers to minimize downtime. Observes mechanical systems in operation using precision tools to identify and address malfunctions. Fabricates repair parts using machine shop tools and specialized equipment. Maintains a safe and organized work environment in compliance with all company safety policies. Operates powered industrial trucks, overhead cranes, and portable lifting equipment as needed. Supports continuous improvement initiatives and participates in team-based problem solving. Complies with OSHA regulations including hazard communication, ergonomic safety, and energy control procedures. Promotes a proactive culture of safety aligned with company policies and regulatory standards. Performs additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor. Who You Are Minimum of 5 years of experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, preferably in maintenance. High school diploma or equivalent required; apprenticeship, journeyman training, military service, or equivalent mechanical/electrical training preferred. Proficient in using hand and power tools, precision measuring devices, and reading technical blueprints. Strong mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of electrical systems and PLCs. Effective communication skills in English and basic math proficiency. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve problems in a high-pressure, safety-driven environment. Ability to pass job-specific testing, a physical exam, and a drug screening. Strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Physical Abilities Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Stands or walks for extended periods throughout the shift. Bends, twists, stoops, kneels, crawls, sits, and reaches in all directions as required. Meets all other physical demands required by the position.
