Maintenance Technician – Facilities Management Department
Base Pay:
$20.75 – $25.94/hr

This class performs specialized repairs, installation, and maintenance on County equipment, fixtures, facilities and associated systems; and may act in lead or senior work capacity.
This is a “mandatory-testing” position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
May serve as a lead to lower level staff by prioritizing and assigning work, training staff on work methods and procedures, and/or performing other related activities
Identifies, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and repairs problems related to facilities, machines, mechanical devices, electrical systems, plumbing, irrigation systems, utilities, facilities, fixtures, and/or specialized equipment and associated systems in assigned area of responsibility
Monitors, checks, and performs preventive maintenance activities to applicable fixtures, equipment, and/or associated systems to ensure continued and uninterrupted operation
Operates a variety of specialized tools and equipment, including heavy equipment, in order to perform repair and maintenance activities
Prepares and maintains a variety of logs, records, work orders, and/or other related documentation
Installs equipment, light fixtures, and/or other applicable items; disassembles and reassembles equipment to replace worn and/or faulty parts
Monitors tool, supplies, and equipment inventory; notifies appropriate individual(s) when inventory needs to be replenished
Performs a variety of carpentry and/or welding activities in support of building and installing a variety of structures
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
Positions assigned Cabinetmaking may be responsible for:
Building and installing custom cabinetry, historical columns, and/or other related items
Positions assigned to Electrical may be responsible for:
Installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems
Troubleshooting electrical issues using appropriate testing devices and industry standards of practice
Positions assigned to HVAC may be responsible for:
Performing routine and complex installations, maintenance and repairs on Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC) motors and equipment and assisting with complex HVAC work
Certification by an organization approved by the Environmental Protection Agency as an Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician at the “Universal” level upon offer of employment.
Positions assigned to Painting may be responsible for:
Preparing a variety of surfaces for painting
Applying plaster to interior and exterior surfaces
Painting a variety of surfaces
Staining and finishing wood surfaces
Positions assigned to Parks and Recreation may be responsible for:
Cleaning horse stalls
Performing a variety of landscaping activities
Preparing and maintaining athletic fields for sporting activities and events
Positions assigned to Plumbing may be responsible for:
Unclogging main sewer lines and/or fixtures
Maintaining annual testing of backflow preventers
Positions assigned to Water Quality and Land Management Division will involve the operation of a boat to collect water samples and perform other associated duties. For these positions, a Florida Boater Safety Card is desirable as is some knowledge of laboratory procedures and water analysis and wetland restoration and regulations.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.), and up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school and one year of experience in area of specialty; or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver’s license from state of residence, for those who must use a vehicle to change work locations
Certification or license as determined by regulatory agencies in area of specialty
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

general maintenance principles, methods, and techniques

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, running, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity, as well as repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work:
Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travel.
