Traffic Sign and Marking Technician Martin County Board of County Commissioners – 3.6 Stuart, FL Job Details Full-time $41,351.17 – $68,229.43 a year 1 day ago Qualifications Basic math Mid-level Windows GPS Power tools 1 year Manufacturing Editing Full Job Description JOB Responsible work of a skilled nature involving design, manufacturing, and installation of new and replacement roadway signs throughout the County. Responsible for the pavement markings on the roadways. This position may require you to have a take-home vehicle for purposes of responding to departmental emergency situations. An employee is covered under the County’s auto insurance policy when operating the vehicle in the scope of his or her employment. Employees are encouraged to purchase a rider of endorsement to their personal automobile policy to provide coverage for operating a County vehicle for personal use including driving to and from work. In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Gathers and analyzes data on new and existing traffic signs including type, age, reflectivity, and location. Installs, repairs, and maintains regulating, warning, and guiding traffic signs and pavement markings. Performs work in the traffic operations shop and operates power tools and other machinery related to the fabrication of traffic signs used within County right-of-way. Ensures tools and vehicles are adequately maintained. Operates a Crane Truck in the performance of duties. Implements traffic control plans for construction or community events. Position requires stand-by rotation and assistance with special events including the design and setup of detours. Ensures compliance with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Assists in other maintenance operations. Performs layout, painting, application, and installation of protective and/or decorative coatings and materials, lines, arrows, bumpers, and curbs, cosmetic skid-resistant surface treatment, surface sealing, etc. Prepares paint or thermoplastic material for use in pavement marking equipment in accordance with proper procedures. Operates a variety of equipment in the application of pavement markings and the fabrication and installation of signs in accordance with engineering standards.

Perform 24 / 7 on-call emergency response on a rotational basis.

Working knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Florida Department of Transportation’s Standards Plans for Road and Bridge Construction and the ability to apply them in carrying out job responsibilities. Skill in the care and use of hand and power tools used in the installation of traffic signs. Skill in the use of Windows operating software and graphic editing software. Ability to work from sketches, work orders, and verbal instruction. Ability to plan, lay out, and perform roadside traffic sign and pavement marking installation. Ability to interpret laws and statutes as they relate to traffic signage. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, keep accurate records, and prepare reports.
