Job Purpose:
Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, the Maintenance Technician performs basic to intermediate maintenance tasks across all of Innovation Montessori campuses and facilities. The position supports facility-wide maintenance and project work to ensure a safe, clean, comfortable, and efficient environment for students, staff, and the public. Performs related work as directed. Technicians are expected to work within the limits of their training and applicable laws and regulations. Specialized work (such as advanced electrical, HVAC, or plumbing services) will be conducted only by appropriately certified or licensed personnel.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training in building maintenance preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Previous experience operating standard facility equipment safely and effectively.
- Ability to fulfill the physical requirements of the position.
- Comfortable using power tools and performing basic to intermediate repairs independently; capable of completing advanced repairs with supervision.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspections and maintenance of school buildings, equipment, and systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, etc.) as allowed by law and training.
- Address minor repairs such as leaking faucets, squeaky doors, broken tiles, and replacing light bulbs.
- Assist with grounds maintenance tasks such as mulching, landscaping, basic irrigation repairs.
- Ensure assigned areas are opened daily and secured after tasks are completed, (e.g., locking doors and windows, turning off equipment).
- Escort vendors and provide access to building areas as needed for maintenance and repairs.
- Perform custodial duties such as emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting, cleaning vents, fans, and walls.
- Sanitize restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias using appropriate custodial equipment.
- Respond to emergencies (e.g., spills, broken locks/windows) to contain and resolve hazards.
- Move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Cleans equipment and tools after use and maintain cleanliness and order in storage areas.
- Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs to the direct supervisor.
- Conduct regular checks and preventative maintenance on systems and safety equipment.
- Assist with setting up school spaces (classrooms, auditoriums, etc.) for events.
- Work independently or as part of a team depending on the task, such as in seasonal facility preparations or other major projects.
- Stay current with technology relevant to the position; attend training as required.
- Maintain timely and accurate records related to job responsibilities.
- Monitor and manage inventory of maintenance supplies and tools.
- Ensure that all tasks involving regulated systems (e.g., HVAC refrigerants, high-voltage electrical work, structural modifications) are performed only by certified or licensed professionals.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Applicants should be comfortable accessing the roof of two story buildings as needed and be able to work comfortably from a ladder, lift or scaffold as required.
Sensory Requirements:
Some tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability.

Tasks may risk exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature, and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, animals/wildlife, toxic/poisonous agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
