DEPARTMENT

Water This position reports to: Water Distribution Manager General Description This position will perform skilled tasks involved in the inspection, repair, maintenance, and replacement of water distribution systems and equipment; these include, but are not limited to, valves, meters, fire hydrants, varying size lines and mains and backflow devices. Work is accomplished within established standards and practices, and established Town policies and procedures. The individual in this role must carry a Town issued cell phone and be accessible during a rotating on-call schedule in the event of an emergency. Essential Functions Assist with the cutting, fitting, laying, repairing, tapping, cleaning and flushing water mains, pipe, gate valves and fittings on repair of mains and services and installation of services, fire hydrants; assist in shutting off broken sections of water mains Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, trench digging, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling May be required to navigate assigned routes and take readings of meters; record reading on work orders to provide needed information for utility billing or other related action; notes any unusual changes in location or malfunctions, such as leaks or damaged meters Inspect meters and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized connection of use; reports findings to the Water Foreman Recheck meter readings as needed to determine abnormal consumption patterns and analyze possible causes for fluctuation or consumption Drive trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand Participate in construction, maintenance, and repair work, using established safe work practices and procedures Maintain a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, and other work assignments Demonstrate thorough knowledge of and adhere to all established department, division and Town policies and procedures Respond to and address any inquiries by the general public in a courteous, helpful and tactful manner Maintain communication with supervisor, forwards all messages to appropriate parties Ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use Service department equipment and make minor repairs in the field as necessary May be required to work in other divisions on an as-needed basis Performs other job-related duties as necessary and consistent with the position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to read and understand utility maps/plans Ability to develop a working knowledge of equipment, materials and procedures used in maintenance and repair activities of water system Ability to learn the operation of department tools and equipment Ability to safely perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time Ability to work under tight deadlines and remain flexible when plans suddenly change Ability to work independently and in a group setting Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions Physical Requirements Must frequently lift and/or move more than fifty (50) pounds and occasionally assist in lifting and/or moving more than one hundred (100) pounds Required to move; stand, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and sit Acceptable vision abilities required with or without correction Ability to hear normal conversational speech and the ability to distinguish between different sounds in a noisy environment Work Environment The statements noted below are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as a comprehensive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required.   • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair of facilities and systems similar to water and/or wastewater treatment, collection and distribution systems
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements Special Requirements
  • Valid State of Florida Driver’s License
  • Valid State of Florida DEP Level 3 Distribution System Operator license within two years from date of hire
  • Maintain continuing education units (CEU) for all licenses and certifications
  • Must have a current
CPR / AED
