General Building Maintenance Technician Under general supervision, the General Building Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of routine and skilled maintenance and repair tasks across campus facilities and infrastructure. Work involves multiple trades and the use of both power and hand tools.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair general building systems. Perform routine plumbing tasks (e.g., unclogging drains/toilets, replacing fixtures). Handle basic electrical repairs (e.g., replacing outlets, light fixtures, bulbs). Complete general carpentry work including installation of doors, hardware, and stops. Clean, seal, and repair roofs, gutters, and downspouts. Fabricate and install window screens; install appliances such as refrigerators and ranges. Change HVAC filters and perform minor HVAC-related tasks. Repair drywall, paint, and install ceiling tile, flooring, and floor coverings. Mount whiteboards, monitors, bulletin boards, and similar items. Prepare classrooms for academic use and residence halls for student occupancy. Conduct periodic preventive maintenance inspections and repairs. Ensure all work complies with safety codes and standards.

Qualifications Required Education:

High school diploma or GED required. Must demonstrate basic proficiency in grammar, spelling, written communication, and fundamental math skills necessary for reading instructions, completing work orders, and performing measurements or calculations related to maintenance tasks.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Minimum of 1-3 years of hands-on experience in general building maintenance or a related trade.

Preferred:

5 years of experience in general facilities maintenance or the building trades with demonstrated ability to independently perform a wide range of repair and maintenance tasks. Required Licenses, Certificates, and/or

Security Clearances:
Lift Certification:

Forklift and Scissor Lift operation certification required.

Aerial Lift Certification:

Required for safe operation of boom lifts and other elevated work platforms.

Driver’s License:

Valid state-issued driver’s license may be required depending on job site or facility needs.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and/or security clearance as required by the institution or governing body.
