Building Maintenance Technician Utilities Commission, City of New Smyrna Beach – 1.0 New Smyrna Beach, FL Job Details Full-time From $22.31 an hour 22 hours ago Benefits Flexible schedule Qualifications Customer service Microsoft Office High school diploma or GED Driver’s License Class E Computer skills Power tools 1 year Entry level Full Job Description Job Summary Performs skilled manual labor involving the general repair and maintenance of NSBU’s buildings and grounds, including general maintenance, routine maintenance, and preventative maintenance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the following and other duties as assigned: Installs, repairs, or replaces light bulbs and fixtures, door fixtures, door locks, hinges and other hardware, as assigned. Replaces air filters in various air conditioning units. Empties trash containers, sweeps, and picks up litter. Moves office furniture and equipment; runs a variety of miscellaneous errands, including pickups and deliveries. Performs various painting and restoration tasks, as scheduled/directed. Performs light A/C, ice machine, and drinking fountain work (diagnostic, filter maintenance) Replace and/or maintain parking lot markings and curbs Performs general inspections, including elevator operations check, drains/plumbing check (clogs, dry), gates operation/locks check, and doors/locks, as scheduled Performs regular inspections of facility signage and replaces when needed Mechanical closet upkeep – organization and cleanliness Escorts vendors for periodic inspections, repairs, and bids Competencies To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Customer Service Must possess the ability to manage interactions to provide quality service and support to customers (i.e., other employees) and team members; listens effectively to potential issues before reacting with solutions; refers potentially difficult interactions to appropriate supervisor. Maintenance Skills Possess skill in the use a wide range of hand and power tools, and safe use of chemicals and equipment. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers, contractors/vendors, and other team members. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts and calculate figures, such as discounts, interest, and percentages; possesses the ability to accurately measure and calculate figures, such as length, width, height, square footage, etc. Computer Skills Ability to use and understand computer programs, such as MS Office.
