Major Functions The county of Volusia is seeking a Senior Trades Worker for our Carpentry Department. This position is in Daytona Beach, Florida, and will be responsible for all types of hands-on carpentry repair, remodel, and construction work. We are looking for someone that has a keen eye for detail, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work efficiently in a team setting.
CANDIDATES PLEASE, NOTE
Candidate must be willing to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Illustrative Duties (

These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.) Rough and trim carpentry.
Drywall patching, sanding, installation, and repairs.
Millwork and hardware installation.
Minor roofing repairs.
Caulking and sealing windows.
Installation of various types of ceiling tiles.
Door hardware installation and repairs.
Building and installing stud walls.
May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
Responds to emergency situations.
Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or possession of GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience at a journeyman level. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license at time of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license within thirty (30) days of hire. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements will have a Journeyman’s license. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of basic math and the ability to perform calculations.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the carpentry trade.
Knowledge of the Florida Building Code.
Ability to read technical documents and drawings.
Ability to operate saws, drills, sanders, etc.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing to groups and individuals.
Ability to respond to emergency situations.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work under stressful conditions.
Ability to interact effectively with others.
Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Mental Demands:
Ability to do problem solving as required. Ability to read and write sentences and communicate information as needed. Ability to read a level, tape measure, blueprints, mechanical drawings, maps, instructions, procedures, safety instructions, memos, and electronic work orders.
Physical Demands:
Ability to hear, stand, lift, carry, grasp, climb, pull, walk, bend and carry 25 pounds. Visual acuity to include depth perception and color with the ability to operate a motorized vehicle or equipment.
Environmental Demands:
Must work inside and outside. May be exposed to heat, high humidity levels, cold, rain, dust, chemicals fumes and in confined spaces with little or no ventilation and poor lighting.
