Job Details:

Mercer University is searching for a Maintenance Technician I on the Macon, Georgia campus.

Responsibilities:

Incumbent performs broad range of basic facility maintenance duties related to electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC and other responsibilities as assigned on all campus buildings. The incumbent shall strive to maintain a safe and desirable atmosphere for the building occupants of each property. The incumbent works under indirect supervision and reports to the Superintendent of Facilities Maintenance.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma/GED and two years of general facilities maintenance and/or construction experience or a combination of experience in maintenance, construction, and technical education in a skilled trades area will be accepted. Candidates with Technical Vocational education preferred. Should have general basic facilities maintenance skills for the repair and upkeep of equipment. Should have good verbal and written communication skills. Should have good organizational skills with the ability to adapt to change. Good people skills are required along with a commitment to provide quality customer service. The incumbent should have the ability and desire to expand their knowledge in all building maintenance systems. Candidates should have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the university’s carrier.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Must have working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry allowing incumbent to perform required facilities maintenance and repair 2. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and plans 3. Must be able to prepare estimates for maintenance and repair projects 4. Good communication and documentation skills 5. Must have the ability to help identify and resolve problems 6. Must have working knowledge of city, county and state building codes 7. Must have physical ability to perform duties as required with or without reasonable accommodation
