East Cherokee Drive, Ball Ground, GA 30107 Summary/Objective The Level 2 Maintenance Technician supports the reliable operation of extrusion and downstream equipment by performing structured troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, and corrective maintenance tasks. This role bridges mechanical and electrical disciplines, with an emphasis on identifying issues at the component level (such as sensors, relays, and basic I/O devices) and restoring functionality quickly and safely. The technician is expected to execute preventive maintenance procedures, interpret control wiring diagrams, and interface with HMI displays for diagnostics. While not directly responsible for modifying PLC code, the Level 2 Technician must demonstrate strong proficiency in electrical systems and contribute to minimizing equipment downtime through methodical problem-solving and technical skill. Essential Functions
- Perform structured troubleshooting of electrical components such as sensors, relays, and wiring faults.
- Use HMIs to interpret machine alarms and assist in identifying operational faults.
- Execute preventive maintenance on motors, control panels, and extrusion line support equipment.
- Replace and align mechanical components including motor mounts, gearboxes, and rollers.
- Use test equipment (multimeters, insulation testers) to verify control and power circuit integrity.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Complete maintenance documentation and communicate issues clearly to senior technicians.
- Follow all lockout/tagout and electrical safety procedures during troubleshooting and repair. Job Competencies
Technical Proficiency:
Strong foundational knowledge of industrial electrical systems and mechanical drive systems.
Troubleshooting Skills:
Ability to identify root causes for common equipment failures using a systematic approach.
Preventive Maintenance:
Executes scheduled PM tasks and identifies trends indicating developing issues.
Documentation Accuracy:
Completes clear and timely entries in CMMS/work orders.
Safety Focus:
Consistently follows safety protocols and identifies unsafe conditions.
Communication:
Provides clear status updates and collaborates effectively with peers and supervisors.
Reading & Interpretation:
Reads and applies information from manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Skilled Welder (MIG, TIG, Aluminum) able to read and operate from blueprints.
Physical Demands This role requires regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces. Technicians must be able to safely lift and carry items up to 100 pounds, use hand and power tools in tight areas, and visually inspect small electrical components. The position involves frequent exposure to industrial noise, heat, and moving equipment, and may require working at heights. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory. Work Environment This position works in a manufacturing/warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Proper PPE will be administered. Employees will be frequently exposed to mechanical parts and vibration. Travel No travel is required for this position. Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or trade school certificate preferred
- Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including 3-phase power, sensors, relays, and controls
- Proficient in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical prints
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment
- Ability to use multimeters, hand tools, and alignment tools safely and effectively
- Familiarity with HMIs, basic PLC concepts, and troubleshooting control signals
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and industrial safety standards
- Strong documentation, communication, and team collaboration skills
