JOB SUMMARY

The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is currently seeking skilled applicants for the full-time position of Parks Maintenance Technician within the Recreation Department. The ideal candidate will be dependable and prioritize safety. This position is responsible for performing maintenance and repair to county-operated parks sports fields and facilities.

MAJOR DUTIES

Performs maintenance and repair of county-operated parks, sports fields, and related recreational facilities. Mows, weed eats, and edges fields and lawns; trims trees and bushes; picks up trash and debris; applies fertilizer and herbicide as needed. Performs semi-skilled and routine maintenance of department buildings and facilities to include plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work. Operates a variety of maintenance equipment such as mowers, tractors, front and loader, utility vehicles, hand tools, and power tools. Responsible for the seasonal maintenance and preparation work to sports fields. Installs and maintains walking trails and playground equipment as needed. Assists with maintenance, repair, plumbing, and preparation work to county-operated swimming pools. Performs housekeeping duties at facilities as needed. Assists in the preparation of weekend rental facilities. Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of the operations and functions of the Recreation and Parks Department. Knowledge of county policies and procedures. Knowledge of department and safety rules and regulations. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment. Knowledge of basic mechanical, plumbing, and carpentry methods and practices. Knowledge of units of measurement/simple math skills. Skill in the operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment, hand tools, and power tools. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in interpersonal relations. Skill in reading field diagrams.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed outside while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, crouching, bending or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizing sense of smell. The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in a cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, or irritating chemicals. Work requires use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.

WORK SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS

Work hours are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM with occasional Saturday hours. Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent required. Less than one (1) year of related experience required. Possession of a valid Georgia Class C driver’s license.
