We are committed to providing the highest level of service and security to the court systems, the execution of court mandates, and the protection of individuals’ rights and freedoms. The General Maintenance Technician (GMT) position is located at the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office and reports to the Director of Operations, Facilities Maintenance Department. The incumbent is expected to repair fixtures such as painting, repairing windows, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, wiring, doors, floors, refrigeration woodwork, walls, drywall, and other routine maintenance on building systems. The GMT also maintains and repairs specialized equipment and machinery in cafeterias, laundries, Orleans Justice Center, administration offices, and lawn equipment repair. The GMT maintains a state-of-the-art, exceptionally clean, and sanitized facility by implementing improvements and assuring that all of the facility maintenance work is completed both inside and outside of the jail facility. SALARY The salary compensation for the General Maintenance Technician is commensurate with the skills knowledge and expertise of the selected applicant. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Job Duties & Functions:

Performs general repairs and troubleshooting in assigned areas: Takes the initiative to locate, document, and repair unreported equipment/building discrepancies. Performs daily preventive maintenance inspections/repairs in assigned areas, including all task-related documentation: Performs electrical safety checks in patient rooms. Performs repairs/safety checks on non-patient equipment.

Investigates maintenance requests:

Demonstrates effective judgment and decision-making skills by thoroughly investigating all maintenance requests before seeking referral to other crafts. Ensures all work done by other crafts is completed in assigned areas: Takes ownership of assigned area by monitoring others working in the area to assure completeness of all repairs. Enters supply rooms on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions. Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.

Demonstrates dependability:

Works with other employees to accomplish required tasks and ensures open lines of communication to complete tasks in a successful and appropriate manner.

Required Skills and Competencies:

High School graduate or GED equivalent Experienced operating single-man lift Required valid driver’s license Preferred, engineering license, plumbing license, and/or electrical license but not required. Preferred experience in HVAC and Refrigeration Lifting and moving Standing, bending, and walking long distances as necessary Attention to detail Strategic thinking Teamwork
