SUMMARY AND POSITION PURPOSE

The Mowing/Assistant Maintenance Worker for the Jena Band of Choctaw Indians (JBCI) will primarily provide mowing services to all the owned properties.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

(AHEAD

OF DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

) Knowledge of or willingness to learn art and skill of mowing and principles and procedures of maintenance tasks and duties. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Native American history and heritage. Valid driver’s license. (Required) Must be at least twenty-one (16) years of age. On the job training provided.

DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform mowing duties for JBCI properties. Perform maintenance and repair duties for JBCI properties. Secures the needed supplies for assigned jobs, Inspects and identifies equipment or machines in need of repair for mowing purposes. Loading and unloading mowing equipment and operating in a safe manner. Perform general services to mowing equipment such as gas and oil refills. Cleans and assists with upkeep of the facilities. Ability to follow instructions from supervisors or senior maintenance workers. General knowledge operating Zero Turn Mowers, Weed Eaters and Blowers. Ability to use hand tools and power tools. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently. Must be able to manage multiple tasks and meet task deadlines. Ability to occasionally travel and work irregular hours. No felony, theft, stealing, or drug convictions. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen. Ability to collaborate and work with other departments and directors. Knowledgeable of and practices safety concerns. Performs other related duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Prolonged periods in outside elements. Prolonged periods of setting. Must be able to withstand loud noises and the smell grass. Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl into awkward spaces. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds at a time. COMPUTER / OFFICE EQUIPMENT SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, an individual is required to be proficient or able to learn and use the latest version of Microsoft Office software, Spreadsheet software, work within Google Workspace, Internet, and other software programs as needed. Requires the ability to use, operate, and/or handle equipment such as computer, copier, calculator, or telephone. This is not an all-inclusive list.

JOB LOCATION

This position shall be located in the maintenance department in Jena, Louisiana. This position requires reasonable travel for training, consultation with medical and social services providers, and to provide services for tribal members.
