Description:

The St. Tammany Parish Library is seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Technician to ensure that our facilities are well-maintained and safe for our patrons and staff. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general maintenance, a commitment to quality service, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Accepting applications until Tuesday, May 13, 5:00pm CST. Essential Job Functions Work safely and comply with state and federal safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment. Must be proficient in the use of all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Utilize hand and power tools effectively and safely for various maintenance tasks. Perform routine or preventative maintenance on library facilities and equipment to ensure optimal functioning including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting. and carpentry work. Conduct painting and wall repair to maintain the aesthetic appearance of the library. Safely work using ladders to access high areas for maintenance and repairs. Replace lamps and lighting fixtures as necessary to ensure proper illumination throughout the facility. Perform moderate plumbing tasks, including fixing leaks and unclogging drains. Conduct moderate electrical work, including replacing outlets, troubleshooting electrical issues, and performing lighting repairs. Conduct regular inspections of library facilities to identify maintenance needs. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from Supervisor and work order system. Collaborate with other library staff to schedule maintenance work with minimal disruption to library services. Respond to emergencies and provide temporary or lasting repairs as the situation dictates. Drive vehicles to various locations within the STPL service area and other areas as needed or directed. Substitute for the library’s daily Monday-Friday courier book route, potentially on short notice. Substitution may range from single-day coverage to extended periods, as determined by the supervisor Occasionally, the position may involve the cleanup of biohazardous materials, including human and animal bodily fluids, feces, vomit, and deceased animals. The library provides all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and enforces strict adherence to established safety protocols Attend meetings and training as directed by Library administration or Maintenance supervisor Performs other duties and assignments as designated by Management Professional Responsibilities Must satisfactorily complete all required training within the stated time; failure to do so may affect continued employment. Working Conditions Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in various library locations and surrounding grounds. Exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions may occur during outdoor tasks. Work may involve exposure to dust, dirt, and other common environmental factors. The work environment may include noise from equipment and machinery.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Ability to exercise initiative and good judgment. Candidates with prior maintenance field experience will be given preference, though it is not a requirement. Physical Requirements Requires physical exertion, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling heavy objects up to 60 pounds without assistance. Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching is required. Ability to climb ladders and work at heights is necessary. Prolonged standing and walking may be required. Must possess manual dexterity for operating tools and equipment. Minimum Education, Experience and Training Requires a high school diploma or HSE (High School Equivalency) or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent. The candidate must have a valid Louisiana driver’s license. Must have a clean driving record for the past three years While prior HVAC experience is not a mandatory requirement for this position, any demonstrable experience or certifications related to HVAC systems, including EPA certifications, will be viewed favorably. Prior experience in the maintenance field is preferred but not required.
