The Maintenance Technician supports the safe,efficient, and effective operation of district buildings and grounds byperforming a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks. Thisincludes repairs and upkeep of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry,and general building systems. The technician ensures school facilitiesare well-maintained, meet safety standards, and support studentlearning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform routinemaintenance and repairs across all school buildings, includingelectrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
- Respondto maintenance service requests in a timely manner and document workperformed.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on building systems andequipment per established schedules.
- Maintain clean and safe workareas; follow proper procedures for handling tools and materials.
- Assist with snow removal, groundskeeping, and seasonal work as needed.
- Collaborate with custodial staff and external contractors onfacility-related projects.
- Identify and report safety hazards, neededrepairs, and potential facility improvements.
- Maintain accuraterecords of inspections, repairs, and work orders.
- Support event setupand breakdown, including furniture/equipment moving and minor staging.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilitiesor designee.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma orequivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenanceor construction.
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing,carpentry, and general building systems.
- Valid driver’s license andreliable transportation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climbladders, and work in a physically demanding environment.
- Strongtroubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently or as partof a team.
- Ability to communicate effectively and follow written andverbal instructions.
- Must pass a
CORI/SORI
background check andfingerprinting per Massachusetts state law.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Massachusetts trade licenses (e.g., journeyman plumber, electrician,HVAC certification)
- Experience working in a public school orinstitutional environment
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems(BAS)
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVACsystems
- Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment
- Strongattention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Physical ability tolift heavy objects, climb ladders, and work in various environmentalconditions
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed indoors and outdoorsin all weather conditions.
- May be required to respond to after-hoursemergencies or work occasional weekends.
- Exposure to cleaning agents,dust, noise, and machinery.
Job Requirements At least 2 year(s) ofrelevant experience preferred. High School/Trade School degreepreferred. Citizenship, residency or work visa required
