The Maintenance Technician specialist supports the FedEx FedExIndustrial Maintenance for material handling to completepreventative and predictive maintenance and repair of materialhandling systems. Will utilize prescribed processes as they relateto mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls,welding/fabrication and other industrial maintenance relatedsystems. May troubleshoot component and systems issues. EssentialFunctions Provides preventative and predictive maintenance andrepair of material handling systems through demonstrated competencyof two or more specialty skills of mechanical power transmissionand/or electrical and/or PLC/controls with basicwelding/fabrication skills. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose andrepair mechanical and electrical problems and failures within thematerial handling system but rely on higher level techniciansand/or management to make final decisions on more complex issues.

Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe workenvironment by attending safety meetings and required trainings andaddressing all safety concerns. Responds to sort calls to diagnoseproblems and make repairs. May troubleshoot multiple componentissues. Ability to utilize the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)software to enter and retrieve prescribed data. Somewhat complexskills required in diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanicalfailures. May rely on higher level Technicians to assist in morecomplex troubleshooting and issues. May be involved in smallerscope projects. May be required to work a flexible scheduleincluding all days and shifts as the business need dictates.

Examples of what you may learn while in the Tech II level (does notinclude all areas/responsibilities). Identify what component of aconveyor (bearing, pulley, etc.) has caused a conveyor belt tobecome tracked incorrectly and repair/replace it. Ability todiagnose a power transmission failure by determining whichcomponent has failed, such as motor failure, gearbox failure, orpossible locked up pulley or roller. Ability to read and interpretmechanical drawings and manuals. Ability to use a digitalmultimeter on AC/DC voltage, continuity, and resistance settings tofind failed components and shorted wires. Ability to test a relayor contactor to determine which contacts are bad, not just that thecomponent itself has failed. Ability to read and interpretelectrical drawings/schematics and manuals. Open PLC programsoffline. Troubleshoot electrical controls issues utilizing the I/Olights on a PLC. Welding or Fabrication. MIG and stick weld inmultiple positions (vertical, overhead, etc.). Weld new partstogether using appropriate rods, wire, gas, etc. Fabricate basicparts such as a guard or bracket. Use oxygen/acetylene torch.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION

High SchoolDiploma or GED required Certificates in IndustrialMaintenance/Mechatronics, electrical or mechanical trade or relatedarea and an associate degree in a related area preferred.

MINIMUMEXPERIENCE

Six (6) year’s experience, four (4) of those in FedExIndustrial Maintenance or external supporting similar materialhandling systems by demonstrating subject matter expertise inmechanical power transmission, electrical and PLC/Controls andadvanced welding/fabrication skills through job experience, relatedmilitary experience and/or related education required. Multiplecertificates and degrees may be assessed by manager and HR todetermine relevancy to minimum qualifications and experience

Ability to follow detailedprocedures as directed by work orders or management Ability toanticipate, identify and repair problems using sound judgement andfact-based analysis Ability to solve mechanical or electricalproblems, which may include understanding of engineering formulasSubject matter expertise in electrical, mechanical and PLC/controlstroubleshooting, repair and installation which may be with multiplecomponents and systems level Ability to read, interpret and createelectrical and mechanical schematics Ability to utilize theEnterprise Asset Management (EAM) software to enter and retrieveprescribed data Effective verbal and written communication withinown department to peers, managers, and outside vendors to conveytechnical data and needs Need to collaborate successfully withdepartment, operations, vendors and support teams in failures orprojects when required Software skills, including Microsoft Officesuite and other web-based applications Possess time management andorganizational skills
