Position:
The Facilities Maintenance Technician positionsworks independently and collaboratively to maintain all PortFacilities; which include waterfront docks, wharves, piers, andfender systems constructed of steel, reinforced concrete, and heavytimber; pre-engineered steel buildings; steel reinforced concreteaprons and loading docks; concrete and asphalt paved roads andparking lots; rail lines with switches and related equipment;surface and below grade utility systems; heavy industrial equipmentincluding storage tanks and a water tower; fences, seawalls andbreakwaters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspect facilities, identify required repairs and maintenance,develop a list of materials, plan and execute the work. Periodic inspection of work by contractors to ensure compliancewith plans and specifications. Assist Facilities Maintenance Technicians in performing othermaintenance tasks as required. Assist in maintaining operating and maintenance logs on all keycomponents within the refrigeration systems. Assist with troubleshooting, maintenance and repair services ofcontractors that may be called to assist the Port refrigeratedsystems. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Responsible for planning and estimating for small, limited-scopeprojects. Serve as a Line Handler for inbound and outbound ships on a “watchbill” basis. Responsible for rough and finished carpentry, including the use ofhand tools, power saws, and miscellaneous equipment involved withgeneral facility maintenance and repair. Assist with masonry work includes concrete blocks, forming,placing, and finishing concrete, asphalt pavement patching, sheetmetal work. Pre-engineered steel building construction, maintenance, andrepair. Assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings,properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds,and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation andmaintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenanceoperations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Basic mechanical knowledge, including the ability to identify andwork with various models of forklifts, manlifts, earth-movingequipment, and landscaping tools. Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, andengineering drawings. Ability to quickly learn assigned tasks, maintain detailed andaccurate records, and adhere to established procedures and safetyprotocols. Strong ability to work independently with minimal supervision aswell as collaboratively within a team, fostering a positive teamenvironment and a spirit of cooperation. Basic knowledge of residential and commercial HVAC systems.
Qualifications and Experience:
High School Diploma, or equivalent required. A Mississippi Driver’s License required. 3 years’ experience in the construction and maintenance of lightindustrial facilities. Experience in general HVAC and Refrigeration repair andmaintenance. Technical/Trade School for general construction/facilitymaintenance preferred. Broad-based experience in carpentry, masonry, and steelconstruction preferred.
Requirements:
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card(TWIC) within 30 days of employment. (
