Description of Position Performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on campus buildings, mechanical equipment and utility systems. Personnel may be required to respond to campus emergencies both during and off shift. Responsibilities Ensure that safety comes first when operating power equipment.

  • To construct and install new irrigation and drainage systems as needed.
  • To maintain, adjust, or repair irrigation and drainage systems.
  • To keep all sidewalks, walkways. steps, streets, and drives clear of debris and neat in appearance.
  • To keep streets and parking areas free of potholes etc.
  • To daily remove all limbs, trash, cigarette butts. and debris from campus grounds.
  • To keep the lake free of trash and other debris.
  • In conjunction with the contracted landscaping company for the University, to keep all plant material neat in appearance by pruning in accordance with their natural growth habit and to keep free of weeds.
  • Pressure washing of buildings as needed.
  • Service all exterior areas affected by insects or wildlife i.e. fire ants, wasps, snakes etc.
  • To maintain and I or repair all outdoor seating i.e. rockers, benches, tables etc.
  • Sod work as needed.
  • As the need arises, grounds staff may need to assist in the moving of office furniture.
  • Make sure all campus event set ups in Track-It (work order system) are set up on schedule and struck on time. This announcement covers most of the significant duties performed by the position, but does not include other work, which may be similar, related to, or a logical assignment for the position.   • The successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview in one’s area of service and must fully support the University Vision, Mission and Statement of Faith.

  • High school diploma, degree or University hour’s desirable but not required
  • Possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the specific duties of the position
  • Willingness to work weekend hours as needed
  • Must be physically able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, have the ability to walk throughout the campus and to climb stairs, ladders, lifts, scaffolding, bucket truck, and staging at various heights throughout the duration of the shift
  • Operating Belhaven University licensed vehicles is an essential job function for all maintenance personnel.
