Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Functions:
Install fiber drops from the curb to the home. Must be able to splice on fiber connectors. Knowledge of fiber, CAT5 and CAT6 color code. Must be able to use and operate an OTDR, Light Meter, Light Source, and Multiâ??Meter. Be responsible for company assets such as tools, proprietary Software, & site database. Locate and alleviate trouble with damaged equipment or cabling. Readjust equipment, repair or replace inoperative equipment, and test for operation. Conduct customer premise surveys, make recommendations on equipment placement, timely process work order modification, and manage schedule impact. Provide prompt, courteous, and excellent customer service. Promptly report defective material / equipment and inaccuracies or omissions in job information that may result in inadequate service for customers. Clean up debris from installation, patch drill holes, and return unused materials. Return customer premise to like or better conditions. Must be familiar with OSHA requirements and communicate them with other employees. Must be able to complete normal Installation of FTTP without assistance. Must be able to fluently read telecom outside plant records for turnâ??up and troubleshooting a telecom outside plant fiber network. Must be able to make recommendations on new approaches to current telecom outside plant fiber network. Must be able to schedule work and complete tasks in a timely manner. Must be able to help with team coordination efforts to create an efficient work environment. Job Specifications:
ï?• Education and Accreditation(s): High school diploma or equivalent required. ï?•
Experience:
Experience with IPTV, Cable TV, Fiber splicing, wireline phone, or general construction (preferably telecom) required ï?•
Knowledge:
Basic employee safety and general understanding of electrical work. ï?•
Abilities/Skills:
Must possess a high degree of interpersonal skills. Must possess and demonstrate excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate construction scenarios clearly to other team members or outside parties. Must obtain certification in climbing poles within communication space. ï?•
Driving:
Must possess or obtain a valid Mississippi Class A commercial driver’s license. Must maintain an acceptable driving record. ï?•
Physical Demands:
Must be physically fit, able to lift 60+ lbs, bend/crouch regularly, extensive walking, etc. Must be able to work outside in allâ??weather environments and terrain on a regular basis. Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use computer keyboard and/or mouse, while viewing computer screen. Must be able to work on a ladder for an extended period of time. Must have good hand eye coordination. ï?•
Work Environment:
The position often involves irregular and long hours including nights, weekends, and holidays. On call rotation is required and must be available during emergency conditions.
