The primary purpose of this position is to resolve facility maintenance issues in NCDOT buildings within the 6 counties that make up Division 12. The employee will work under the direction of the Equipment Department. The employee in this position will work closely with the Equipment and Division Unit. Employee must have an excellent knowledge of building codes and perform at the journey level in at least two trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, or plastering). This position may also be required to work at other facilities and shops as directed by the Superintendent and our Fleet Manager. This position requires skilled work in the building maintenance and repair of facilities involving multiple complex and/or highly skilled trade specialties. Perform facility repairs and new installations of plumbing, sewer, gas lines, sinks, tank pumps, water closets, hydrants, wiring including 3phase power, generators, roofing, air compressors, plastering, painting, and water lines. Work is performed in accordance with a schedule of needs in the department and special repair assignments are received verbally and by work orders from authorized personnel. Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of trade skills to a variety of maintenance and repair problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done. Employee measures, calculates and identifies material and fixtures for different projects. Work may include providing technical guidance to employees engaged in semiskilled, unskilled or of skilled employees; however, employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently. Unscheduled overtime may be required during building emergencies. Duties include keeping facilities in compliance and success in keeping shop equipment in proper working conditions. This position is subject to emergency or after hours call back to assist with building emergencies after hours, weekends, and holidays. Competencies:

Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: Knowledge of plumbing systems repair and the standard practices and procedures of the plumbing trade. Demonstrated ability to find and solve defects and follow instructions both oral and written.
Demonstrated ability to read and work on blueprints, sketches, and schematics.
Demonstrated ability to use measuring, pipe cutting, and threading equipment.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with little instruction or guidance. Additional Expectations Must be able to legally operate a state vehicle.
