Job Description

FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to perform plumbing/mechanical work in the maintenance, installation and repair of boilers, pumps, dom. hot water, food service equipment, plumbing systems, sewer pumps, green houses and other associated equipment and control systems. Work is performed in varying weather conditions at low to medium heights requiring the use of ladders and under established and enforced safety conditions. Work is reviewed by Plumbing & Supervision and Division Management for adherence to established maintenance and repair standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs installation and maintenance on a variety of plumbing & boiler equipment and systems.
  • Performs repairs on heating systems and components such as boilers, circulating pumps, steam systems, steam traps, return pumps, controls or control circuits, domestic hot water systems, supply lines, air compressors, and other regulating valves and sensors.
  • Performs installation and repair of plumbing systems, plumbing fixtures, water coolers and sewer pumps
  • Roding or jetting sewer lines and drain lines.
  • Performs installation and repair of gas fired food service equipment, ovens, flat tops, fryers, steamer ovens and steam booster heaters.
  • Participates in keeping service truck clean and stocked with needed parts, supplies, and tools; picks up parts and supplies from vendors.
  • On occasion, assist the Maintenance Division in the clearing snow and ice from driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.
  • Operates a computerized work order system.
  • Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the plumbing and mechanical trade.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools, parts, and equipment used in the plumbing and mechanical trade.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and related safety precautions in area assigned to work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform diagnostic troubleshooting of mechanical equipment and control systems.
  • Ability to exercise the physical strength and agility necessary to preform job tasks, with a minimum of 50 lbs. lifting and carrying capacity and occasional 75 lb. lifting capacity.
  • Ability to detect by inspection broken or worn parts.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to operate vehicles safely.
  • Ability to maintain routine records.
  • Ability to exercise the physical strength and agility necessary to perform job tasks.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and school personnel.
  • Position requires the ability to work occasional scheduled overtime and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises by responding to after-hours emergencies, which may include weekends and holidays.
  • Maintain a computerized work order system that tracks time and material.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Minimum:

    High School Diploma/GED supplemented by course work in plumbing and boiler/burner skills, or four years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
    • Valid NC Driver’s License

    • 12 Months
    • Minimum Monthly Salary $3,617.
