Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Metal Recycling Shredder Maintenance Technician to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of our industrial metal shredding equipment. The successful candidate will perform comprehensive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair tasks on all aspects of the shredder, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. This position requires a strong blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to safety.
Key Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance :
Conduct regular inspections and scheduled maintenance on shredder components, including motors, bearings, belts, blades, conveyors, and control systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
Troubleshooting and Repairs :
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in the shredder and associated systems, ensuring rapid response to equipment failures.
Electrical Systems :
Maintain and repair electrical components, including wiring, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), sensors, and motor controls, adhering to electrical safety standards.
Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems :
Inspect, service, and repair hydraulic pumps, valves, cylinders, and pneumatic systems to ensure optimal performance.
Welding and Fabrication :
Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks to repair or modify shredder components as needed.
Safety Compliance :
Adhere to all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout procedures, PPE usage, and OSHA regulations, to maintain a safe working environment.
Documentation :
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Collaboration :
Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize production interruptions.
Continuous Improvement :
Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency, recommending upgrades or modifications as appropriate.
Qualifications Education :
High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience :
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in industrial equipment maintenance, preferably in metal recycling, heavy machinery, or manufacturing environments.
Technical Skills :
Strong mechanical aptitude with expertise in repairing heavy machinery. Proficiency in electrical systems, including troubleshooting PLCs, motor controls, and industrial wiring. Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems maintenance. Welding and fabrication skills (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick welding). Familiarity with industrial shredders or similar equipment is a plus.
Certifications :
Forklift, rigging, or OSHA safety certifications are desirable. Electrical or hydraulic certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., work at heights, and perform tasks in confined spaces. Must be able to stand, bend, and climb for extended periods.
