Full Job Description Job Summary:

The Automation Technician will be a key player in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and optimal performance of our advanced manufacturing equipment. This role demands a dual expertise in maintaining and troubleshooting complex automated systems (including PLCs, robotics, HMI/SCADA) and a variety of stamping presses. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, hands-on problem-solver dedicated to minimizing downtime, maximizing productivity, and upholding the highest safety standards in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and emergency repairs on a wide range of industrial equipment, including stamping presses (mechanical, hydraulic, servo), robotic systems, PLCs, HMI/SCADA systems, conveyors, sensors, and other automated machinery.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex faults in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems for both stamping and automated equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical blueprints, hydraulic/pneumatic diagrams, and technical manuals for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.
  • Troubleshoot, modify, and perform basic programming of PLC systems (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) to resolve operational issues and optimize equipment performance.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform basic programming/adjustments on industrial robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, KUKA, ABB), including teach pendant operations and calibrations.
  • Assist with or perform die setting, die changes, and adjustments on stamping presses to ensure proper alignment and part quality.
  • Inspect, maintain, and repair critical press components such as clutches, brakes, lubrication systems, safety guarding, and related auxiliary equipment (coil feeders, straighteners).
  • Install, calibrate, and commission new automated and stamping equipment.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to log maintenance activities, manage work orders, and track spare parts inventory.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify opportunities for improving equipment reliability, efficiency, safety, and process optimization for both stamping and automation.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety regulations, LOTO procedures, and company standards.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical support for automation and stamping projects.
  • Fabricate or repair parts as needed using machine shop equipment (e.g., welders, grinders, lathes, mills).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Automation Technology, Electronics, Millwright, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Strong background in electrical maintenance, including 480V 3-phase systems.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Automation Technician in an industrial manufacturing environment with significant hands-on experience in both stamping operations and industrial automation.
  • Proven experience working with various types of stamping presses and a strong understanding of their mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), basic programming, and diagnosing I/O issues.
  • Experience with industrial robotics including maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic programming/adjustments.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and diagrams.
  • Solid understanding of motor controls, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Experience with die setting, die protection systems, and maintaining critical stamping press components.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as an effective member of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with CMMS software.
  • Deep commitment to safety protocols (especially LOTO) and quality standards.
  • Ability to work [e.g., rotating shifts, overtime, weekends] as required.
  • Must be able to lift [e.

Preferred Skills:
  • Advanced PLC programming capabilities.
