  • The Challenge
  • We are looking for an experienced Maintenance/Construction Technician III to join our Facilities Management team.

In this role, you will

  • Perform facility repairs and new installations of plumbing, sewer, gas lines, sinks, tank pumps, hydrants, and water lines in accordance with schedule of needs in the institution and special repair assignments
  • Manage work orders from authorized staff
  • Exercise initiative and judgment in the application of trade skills to a variety of maintenance and repair problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done
  • Measure, calculate, and identify materials and fixtures for different projects
  • Provide technical guidance to staff engaged in semiskilled, unskilled, or skilled work
  • Travel across North Carolina to any Division, shop, or agency as needed.
  • What You Bring
  • Skilled work experience in building maintenance and repair of facilities involving multiple complex or highly skilled trade specialties
  • Knowledge of plumbing systems repairs and standard plumbing practices/procedures
  • Communications skills to communicate with and direct journeyman staff verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and work on blueprints, sketches, and schematics, and to measure, pipe cut, and thread equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little instruction or guidance
  • Ability to safely drive a state vehicle.
  • Note
  • We may require you to become certified by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician.
  • Education and Experience
  • High School/GED Diploma, and
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in complex mechanical or building trades; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.
