Job Description

We are looking for a motivated individual to serve asSenior Plant Maintenance Mechanic for Raleigh Water. The ideal candidate performs and directs plant maintenance mechanics in skilled mechanical work of all Water Treatment Plant and pump station equipment.

This exciting opportunity needs someone with knowledge of equipment installation and/or modification; analysis and reasoning skills to troubleshoot malfunctions and make repairs; and strong inspection skills to identify issues, confirm system corrections, and adjust equipment as necessary.

You will also work with other mechanics regarding structured work preparation, handling associated work orders through our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), cost sheets, work plan adjustments, and standard operating procedures.

  • Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, upgrades, installs machinery, chemical feed systems, plumbing systems, pumps, valves, gearboxes, pneumatic/hydraulic systems and other critical equipment in a continuous-running work environment
  • Reads and understands mechanical prints and OandMs
  • Observes and listens to mechanical performance to troubleshoot malfunctions and test performance of equipment
  • Performs preventative maintenance, facilities maintenance, inspections, adjustments, and replacement of defective parts, equipment and systems
  • Ensures the maintenance work area, warehouse, facility, grounds and storage areas remain neat, clean, safe and orderly. Cleans and repairs hand tools and power tools used for mechanical equipment maintenance
  • Prepares job site for projects and repairs, assembles and organizes equipment, tools, and materials
  • Utilizes and updates hard-copy and digital copies of equipment, operations and maintenance manuals
  • Completes preventative maintenance work orders using the CMMS in addition to creating work orders and documenting time, equipment and materials
  • Operates equipment such as scissor lifts, forklifts, backhoes, skid steers, boats, UTVs, etc
  • Receives cross training to assist with other programs within the division such as operations, remote staff, electrical staff, etc
  • Performs special tasks, as required, during emergency and disaster events## Typical QualificationsEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or GED and three years of maintenance experienceORAn equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing and Certifications

  • Certification/licensure for water/wastewater operators consistent with North Carolina law
  • Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Preferred Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of continuous experience in the repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment
  • C Surface Water Treatment Certification, or the ability to obtain within 2 (two) years of hire
