00 Job Description The City of Raleigh is seeking an enthusiastic Maintenance Technician to join our Transportation Department. If you are our candidate for this job, you will be trained to operate a sweeper to clean bike lanes; operate various tools and equipment associated with landscape maintenance; operate a dump truck or flatbed to haul employees, tools, and supplies to job sites; assisting nuisance abatement crews in landscaping and removing debris from properties; assisting with graffiti removal; assisting in cleaning debris from streets and dead ends, operating a dump truck with a leaf machine attachment during leaf collection season; operating snow removal equipment during inclement weather; and general street maintenance related duties. You may be assigned other street maintenance related duties as needed. Within the Transportation Special Operations Unit, you will help keep the City of Raleigh clean and beautiful by working with a crew to keep streets clear of litter and debris, removing graffiti from various surfaces, picking up leaves from the streets, and assisting with traffic control and cleanup during the Raleigh Christmas Parade and First Night. Joining our Transportation Maintenance Division will provide an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in the maintenance of critical infrastructure such as sidewalks, curb and gutter, asphalt, medians, and storm drains. As a member of our 218 person staff, you will contribute to maintenance of 1,130 miles of streets and sidewalks; the upkeep of over 33,000 curb ramps; and the protection of 3.2 million linear feet of stormwater pipes connecting more than 32,000 drainage inlets. The Special Operations Unit is responsible for sweeping and flushing streets, removing nuisance abatements, graffiti removal, leaf collection, cleaning up illegal dumping and spills, managing traffic control and cleanup for events downtown. Duties and Responsibilities Operates bike lane sweeper Operates dump trucks and flatbed dump trucks Assisting with crew room/department operations including but not limited to, nuisance abatements, graffiti removal, and grass cutting Performs unskilled or semi-skilled general maintenance Operate a dump truck with a walk behind leaf machine (possibly an automated leaf truck) Operates salt truck with spreader and plow during snow events Selects proper maintenance tools and equipment for tasks Performs work following established safety policies and procedures and applicable codes and regulations Will be required to work extended hours on rotating shifts during leaf collection, emergencies, and inclement weather.
Typical Qualifications Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED and two years of maintenance experience related to assignment OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in both the field and in an indoor office environment with moderate exposure to atmospheric conditions (such as fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, etc.); moderate exposure to environmental conditions (such as disruptive people, imminent danger, or a threatening environment); and frequent exposure to intense noise.
