Facilities Management USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing campus buildings, student housing, and grounds. This role requires a working knowledge of multiple trades, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to complete work orders efficiently while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. Under general supervision of designated supervisor, perform general and preventative maintenance services and related repairs to college/university buildings, structures, machinery and equipment. Responsible for facilities maintenance, repairs, inspections, and on campus grounds activities as needed and assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs:

Respond to maintenance service requests from students, faculty, and staff. Perform repairs and maintenance in carpentry, painting, and mechanical trades at a journeyman level. Install, repair, and replace plumbing systems and fixtures (faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, toilets, pressure valves). Maintain, repair, and replace electrical systems, including light switches, outlets, panels, and fixtures. Perform carpentry tasks such as framing walls, doors, and windows; assembling furniture, cabinets, and shelving. Repair and install drywall (hanging, taping, texturing). Paint and stain interior and exterior surfaces, including furniture. Install and repair door lock sets, rekey locks, and padlocks. Conduct preventative maintenance and inspections.

Grounds & Exterior Maintenance:

Perform general grounds maintenance, including cleanup, planting, trimming trees/shrubs, and leaf removal. Handle snow removal (shoveling, snow blowers) and de-icing of walkways.
Maintain parking lots, including line painting, pothole repair, and fencing upkeep. Operate small tractors for snow removal and other tasks. Maintain grass, landscaping, and outdoor spaces.

Facilities & Event Support:

Assist with special events, including setting up and breaking down chairs, tables, and equipment. Support student housing upkeep and maintenance. Move office furniture and equipment as needed. Install and remove window-style A/C units. Set up for commencement and other institutional events.

Safety & Compliance:

Ensure all work is performed following OSHA and safety standards. Identify and report safety concerns to the Facilities Manager. Serve as a member of the safety committee and contribute to safety improvements.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:

Trade or vocational school graduation and at least two years of experience in building trades, or a combination of training and experience equal to four years. Working knowledge of two or more trades, with expertise in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and safety standards. Ability to operate tools and equipment relevant to the trade. Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing maintenance needs. Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting heavy objects and working in inclement weather. Ability to wear and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Valid motor vehicle operator’s license (if required).
