Non-Exempt Valid Drivers License Required Join a Mission-Driven Organization with Purpose The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas are seeking a skilled, reliable, and safety-focused Maintenance Technician II to support the operations of our Watchung, NJ campus. In this critical role, you’ll perform a variety of hands-on maintenance and repair tasks that directly impact the quality of life for our residents and the upkeep of our grounds and facilities. This position serves as a lead technician—handling day-to-day assignments, coordinating work orders, and ensuring facility systems run smoothly and safely. Key Responsibilities Perform general maintenance and repair of building systems, equipment, and grounds. Troubleshoot, install, and repair plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems. Lead daily assignments and monitor department workload in the absence of the Campus Administrator. Assist with preventative maintenance, painting, groundskeeping, and contracted service oversight. Ensure safety standards, work area cleanliness, and proper tool/equipment use. Respond to emergency maintenance needs with calm and efficiency. Accept on-call responsibilities as needed. Required Qualifications Associate’s degree or trade school certification or four years of relevant experience. At least five years of hands-on maintenance experience. Must be willing to obtain a New Jersey Black Seal License within one year. Proficiency in basic maintenance across multiple disciplines: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, landscaping, and equipment operation. Valid NJ driver’s license with a clean driving record. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and support team operations. Availability for on-call rotation during weekends, weekdays, and holidays. Ability to uphold and support the mission and values of the Sisters of Mercy. Preferred Qualities Prior experience in a campus, healthcare, or faith-based setting. Organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful. Comfortable using computers and basic technology. Ability to remain calm under pressure and work effectively with others. Familiarity or appreciation for the traditions and values of the Catholic Church. Physical Demands Must be able to lift/carry over 75 lbs and work from ladders. Must be able to crouch, climb, kneel, and work in various physical positions.
