Job Description Position Purpose:

Provides a day-to-day monitoring and operations of all wastewaterequipment at the plant and stations. Inspects and performsmechanical troubleshooting to determine repairs needed.

PrimaryDuties/Responsibilities:

Operates equipment manually and throughinstrument panels, computer terminals and programmable logiccontrol units associated with wastewater facilities. This includesbut is not limited to VFD’s, SCADA, flow meters, gauges, andrelated controls on instrument panels. Performs field tests(chemical. physical and biological) in order to pace chemicaldosages for process and odor control units or alter unit processes.

Monitors and observes operating conditions. Records observationsand data in shift log. Performs routine calibrations for portablemeters including, but not limited to dissolved oxygen, pH, andscales. Diagnoses basic operational problems and takes correctiveaction. Communicates status changes and abnormalities in operatingareas. Follows process control procedures for assigned areas.

Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions and to the supervisor.

Creates and closes out preventative and corrective maintenance workorders in the CMMS Program (Job Cal Plus) that is owned by the Townof Rockland Prepares chemical solutions, monitors process chemicalsupplies and recommends reorder. Sample wastewater and sludgeaccording to schedule. Performs maintenance including routinepreventive maintenance, lubrication, minor adjustments and basictroubleshooting of equipment. Recommends solutions and fills outwork orders. May assist with maintaining parts, spares, andmaintenance inventory Operates and maintains project vehicles.

Assist the town in any sewer collection projects. Mark out anysewer dig safes that have been called in. Follow all Company LifeSafety Rules. Assured work is performed in a safe and professionalmanner by following established safety, operating and emergencyresponse procedures. Completes all required safety classes assignedby the company. Performs cleanup and housekeeping tasks for themain building (lunchroom, bathrooms, offices, hallways, and lab,etc.), tools, equipment, vehicles, and grounds. Performs otheroperational duties such as running lab analysis and operating thebelt filter press. On Call, working holidays and weekends are on arotational schedule. All outside work including but not limited tosnow removal, salting, mowing grass, and weed trimming.

WorkEnvironment:

Requires working in outside and inside environmentswith noise and all temperature conditions. Must be able to workunder adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.

Qualifications Education/Experience/Background:

High school or GEDwith the ability to read, write, and be able to carry out verbaland written instructions. Three to Five years of experience in arelated position in a similar environment.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Ability to perform basic mathcalculations. Ability to interpret and record data from meters,gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.

Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs. Mustbe able to inspect and diagnose process problems. Requires workingknowledge of the methods, techniques, principles, and practices ofwastewater treatment as acquired through three years of experience.

Requires ability to diagnose problems within the scope of work withprocess and equipment knowledge. Must have the ability to establisheffective working relationships with other employees and thewillingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

Must have and maintain avalid driver’s license and a safe driving record. Requirespossession and maintenance of a current Grade IV wastewateroperator’s certification as issued by MA-DEP within 6 months fromstart date. Willingness and ability to obtain State ofMassachusetts Forklift Certification and Hoisting Licenses.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform tasks standing (25%) andwalking (75%) for as many as two miles per shift. Works in variouspositions like climbing stairs, squatting, stooping, bending,kneeling, or working with hands extended above and below head andbody for up to 40 minutes. May perform work on ladders, catwalks,and supports 50 feet above the ground. Must be able to lift andcarry up to 50 pounds while walking distances of 10 feet.

Additional Information Pay Range:

$25.00 to $27.00 per hour.
