Pipeline Maintenance Technician/Gas Controller 4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 600 Helena Street, West Mifflin, PA 15122 Job Summary We are seeking a candidate for the position that will perform operations and maintenance tasks on the U.S. Steel Coke Oven Gas (COG) piping system/ facilities. The position has a six-month probationary period with Songer Services, and the candidate must join United Steel Worker’s local 1408 within 30 days of employment. On-the-job training for tasks will be provided for all covered tasks needing to be performed. The position is based on a 40-hour work week, but due to the nature of breakdowns and maintenance activities, business hours and shifts may be altered to fit the customers’ needs, which may include overtime. Wages, benefits, paid-off time, health and wellness plan, and 401K are based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The current starting wage for the six-month probation period is $24.49. Upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period, the new employee’s rate of pay will increase to 90% of the effective Operator/Laborer wage rate in effect at the time of promotion from probationary employee to regular employee. Twelve months after promotion from probationary employee to regular employee the employee rate of pay will increase to 100% of the Mixing Station operator/Laborer pay rate in effect at that time. Responsibilities Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test, and will be subject to random drug testing Subject to pre-employment background check Adhere to all Songer company policies as well as all of U.S. Steel policies Train and test on Operator Qualifications for covered tasks required by the DOT for a regulated gas transmission line. Physical ability to patrol Pipeline Right-away maintenance Facilities Maintenance at the Mixing Station Grounds Operate Maintenance Equipment including but not limited to, fork truck, small/large tractors, snowplow, flatbed truck, tanker, etc. Monitor and inspect the pipeline for leaks and other potential hazards Perform routine preventative maintenance Able to work (3) rotating shifts as needed – (7am to 3pm), (3pm to 11pm) and (11pm to 7am) Perform other miscellaneous duties instructed by supervisory personnel. Perform piping and valve routine maintenance Requirements Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to build, repair, and maintain various types of equipment. High School Diploma or GED minimum. Valid Driver’s License Mechanically inclined, working knowledge and ability to use hands and power tools Physical ability to walk the hilly terrain of the gas transmission line Physical ability to perform maintenance tasks involved with piping and related equipment Ability to wear ½, full-face, or supplied breathing air equipment as required. Ability to perform heavy lifting as needed during maintenance tasks. Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail. Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. Basic math skills for effective task execution.
